Do you know for sure that you are full pay? We got nothing from any other school, but Northeastern was quite generous. I don’t know if it’s because they consider having multiple kids in college or if they don’t penalize as much for a 529, but we were pleasantly surprised. If you still have the opportunity, it would be worth doing the pre-read. That way if your student applies EA and gets deferred, you can make an educated decision about whether to switch to ED2.
Does anyone know if the balance of retirement accounts affect institutional aid? The NPC does not ask for the current balance.
I can’t say with 100% certainty, but I don’t believe so.
Are there numbers showing what % of ED accepted kids got the Boston campus as a start?
Past postings here on CC put the Boston acceptance rate for ED at 35%.
Thanks. Are there numbers on ED1 vs ED2 for the Boston Campus?
They’ve never broken out ED1 v ED2.
Does anyone know which majors tend to land in Oakland or NU in? Or is that even a factor? My DD will be applying ED2 (assuming she doesn’t get into her ED1) and Boston is her only preferred choice, though they’re making us provide a 2nd and 3rd choice regardless.
Oakland tends to be more liberal arts programming as Mills college was a small LAC. (You can see their majors on the NU website.) NUIN takes all majors at varying locations. It doesn’t matter anyway bc anything but your first preference is non binding, so consider anything besides a Boston acceptance as a denial as others have shared with you before. For many, they are thrilled to get an “in” to NU even if they need to spend a semester abroad (and often find it an amazing experience.) your child can just turn down their offer if they are not offered Boston.
Hi! I’m hoping someone can give me an idea of my chances for northeastern EA. Here are my stats:
Unweighted GPA: 3.92/4 for 2019-2020 (I went to a different high school than my current (its a whole story, but I skipped a grade in middle school and repeated 9th to go to a boarding school, which is common where I go)), 5.56/7 current → translates to 3.78/4
→ I know my GPA is something I lack in. However, I would like to note that since sophomore year I have taken almost solely honors and advanced classes (ex. molecular biology, calculus III). I also go to a college preparatory school. I believe the rigor of my transcript is very high.
SAT: 1450 → Not superscored.
ECs: GSA head, Prefect (It’s like an RA), A Capella Head, Choir Officer, Theater Captain, Independent Research (Fall Term), Internship (Johns Hopkins, Summer, Recommendation submitted from my supervisor), Lots of community service, tutoring, varsity sports (freshman year → I injured out ).
→ I think my ECs are the strongest part of my application, which sucks because they care about it MUCH less about them
Intended Major: Cellular/ Molecular Biology
I have demonstrated interest.
Everyone I have read on this forum is really impressive, so please let me know if there is hope for me or if I should settle for somewhere else!
