northwestern vs. dartmouth

Yes, other than those things.

-Top B-schools
-Quarter System
-Dominated by Greek scene
-Similar areas of strength in academic programs

I qualified the post pretty heavily, but I suppose I should have clarified I meant that in terms of campus life/ subjective experience of college, rather than location.

As for your “actual fact”- other than the somewhat old cross-admit statistics from one year from the NYT, I don’t really know how you can even claim to begin to know that “most people choose Dartmouth over NU”. Those numbers only tell you that a majority of those admitted to both choose Dartmouth, in that year. You would need a lot more data to prove that most people, everywhere, would choose Dartmouth over NU.

Dartmouth has more of a liberal arts feel due to its size (and for the same reason, has fewer and a narrower range of course offerings) and more of an insular feel because of its location. Also, while Dartmouth is an Ivy, I’d say NU has greater prestige outside the Northeast, warranted or not (according to US News, though, the peer assessment scores are similar). NU’s endowment is also much larger, albeit it has more programs to sustain and a larger student body. I believe they attract the same type of students, with Dartmouth getting more of the outdoorsy and Ivy-conscious types.

Ummm, isn’t Kellogg ranked higher than Dartmouth’s Business School? Northwestern has no undergrad business program. Thus, admitone is incorrect. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. The level of recognition of Northwestern and Dartmouth, among the average teenagers and adults, is pretty much the same, unfortunately. They’re both great schools, but I think it really depends on what you’re looking for. Northwestern is in the city, whereas Dartmouth is not. Northwestern is more well-rounded, I believe, but Dartmouth is part of the Ivy League and stands 1 rank above Northwestern. The surroundings of Dartmouth are really beautiful, I admit. Really, it depends. If I had been accepted to both, I would be pretty conflicted.

This isn’t about MBA programs, its about undergrad. Dartmouth does better than Northwestern at business recruiting for undergrads. Lots of threads on CC about this. Northwestern does do well I’ll admit, about as well as Brown (where I am headed), but Dartmouth just does incredibly well in this area.
