Northwestern Waitlist

If you look at the acceptance rates thread, NU increased its number of acceptances (even though the % still went down) to adjust for a predicted lower yield. Given this, I don’t know how likely NU will go to the waitlist.

I think they went pretty deep into their waitlist last year. basically, they were unprepared for the low yield. this year though, they lowered their yield expectation. but it looks like they are also sharing even more cross-admits with other top schools as the average SAT of the admits is another record high. nobody knows what’s gonna happen.

Your SAT score is insane

how in the world did you get waitlisted and i get accepted?? (grammatically weird i know) but SERIOUSLY WOW you must be at the top. if you want it bad send in stuff! like another essay stating why you want to attend and how you would contribute and what northwestern’s community would gain by you attending. also extra letters of rec. just let them know theyre your number one and your parents are willing to pay

Here are the WL numbers from NU’s Common Data Set:

2006-07: 1572 offered place on WL/ 915 accepted place on WL/ 220 admitted from WL

2005-06: 1272/ 735/ 12

2004-05: 1199/ 643/ 155

I’m not really sure these numbers are at all indicative of what might happen this year, though, given all the admissions turmoil among the elite colleges. Particularly since NU has already accepted 8% more students than last year.

Funny. Last April I figured I was going to NYU and got off the waitlist at NU, now I’m here. I’m fairly certain me visiting NU while I was waitlisted had some impact of me getting in. I was able to chat with one of the admissions officers which I think really helped.

well im in at school of communications but am leaning towards usc… maybe you can take my place haha (im asian as well)

There has to have been something consistent in my record that brought me down (it’s probably my GPA). Otherwise, my results for a/r/w wouldn’t have been so clean cut. Accepted: Occidental, UCI, UCSD, USC, NYU. Waitlisted: NU, UChicago. Rejected: UCB, UCLA, Stanford, Cornell, Columbia. Very clean cut.
