I thought that college admission was based on a test you would take senior year. haha. So when I received a crappy class rank sophomore year my counselor told me about how this all works… Now I have all As.

[] Volunteer/Community service: 200+ hours at local community building. Some of my community service includes translating, working at the children’s clinic, and teaching a computer class. I also volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and other places.
[] Summer Activities: Last summer I went to France with Rotary Exchange program. I spent the rest of the time playing piano.
[] Essays: I think Northwestern looked at my Questbridge application. My common app essay topic was the “issue” one. I think it had great content. Honestly, I don’t think the writing was great, but maybe they took into consideration that I’ve only been speaking English for 8 years.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I didn’t see them, but I think were really good.
[] Counselor Rec: She said she took up all the space they gave her. We talk almost every day, so I think it was great.

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):[/ul] URM, first generation college, low income, speaking English only 8 years? I don’t know if that would be one.
[/li]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Extra-curriculars/Job/Courseload
[] Weaknesses: SAT! GPA
[] Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: URM, Hispanic, interesting essay. Honestly, I don’t know how I was accepted. I didn’t think I would be.
