Not able to reserve an orientation, help!

I paid the deposite on Apirl 25th, but still haven’t recieve the email from the orientation program.
When I tried to reserve, it shows

“Microsoft VBScript runtime error ‘800a01a8’

Object required

/orientation/secure/shibprocessing_rev2.asp, line 137”

Does anyone have the same problem?

Did you sign up for your USC email address? There was a link in the “Orientation email” - I see you didn’t receive that which means you probably didn’t get a USC email address yet. I would call tomorrow (Monday) to USC Student Affairs. This is the department where the email came from with the link. Once you receive your USC email address and login, you will find another email with the orientation link.

S received the Orientation email to set up his USC address within 72hrs of paying his deposit. You definitely should have received it by now.

@squiggles1118, I do have the usc email address, but I couldn’t find “Orientation email” in my inbox.

Here’s the orientation email:

Dear XXXXXXXX :
(if you have already informed us you will not be attending a summer orientation session, please ignore this message)

Welcome to the University of Southern California! We are delighted you have decided to attend USC and welcome you as a new member of the Trojan Family!

In order to ease your transition to USC, we encourage you to take the next step in the enrollment process – signing up for an orientation program. We encourage you to make your online reservation as soon as possible. Sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and many orientation sessions fill prior to the stated refund deadline. When making the online reservation, you will be prompted to choose a session. If the session is no longer listed, it is no longer available. In order to provide a personalized experience for all students, we are not able to accept reservations after the session has filled.

Please become familiar with the entire Orientation Programs website before making your reservation. This site will give you important information about session dates, costs, parent and family programs, options for international students, and details regarding travel and accommodations.

Important: Prior to making your orientation reservation, you must first activate your USC computer account and receive your USC username and password, along with your USC e-mail address. To activate your account, click here.

Once you have activated your computer account (and waited 24 hours for the system to update), you can make a reservation for orientation by logging into the Orientation Student Portal. You will need to have your USC computer username to provide on the reservation form.

In order to login, you will need the following:

Online reservation site: [url=<a href=“http://www.usc.edu/orientation]Welcome”>USC Office of Orientation Programs]Welcome to the USC Orientation Programs Website/url

Ten-digit USC ID Number: XXXXXXXXXX
Having problems logging into the portal? (Hotmail and MSN users, please read.)

After you complete your orientation reservation, make sure and complete your Pre-Orientation Homework. Students will have access to the Pre-Orientation Homework immediately upon making their orientation session reservation. In addition, students who request materials in lieu of attending an orientation session will have access upon requesting materials. Completion of the Pre-Orientation Homework must be done 72 business hours prior to the session the student is attending. Students who do not complete any part of the Pre-Orientation Homework will not be able to register for classes.

XXXXX, we look forward to seeing you at orientation and eagerly anticipate you joining the Trojan Family this upcoming fall. If you have any questions, please contact us at 213.740.7767 or via e-mail at orient@usc.edu.

Sincerely,

Orientation Programs
University of Southern California

Trouble Logging in to the Reservation System

If you are experiencing problems logging in to the USC Orientation website and making a reservation for an Orientation session, see the solutions to potential problems below:

Problem One: Enrollment Commitment Deposit/Intent to Enroll Form

The online reservation system is only open to students who have submitted their Enrollment Commitment Deposit (undergraduate) or Intent to Enroll form (graduate). Once we receive and process your form (5-7 business days after receipt of deposit), you will receive an e-mail with login instructions and can log in to the reservation system. You must wait for this e-mail in order to make a reservation.

Problem Two: Computer Account Username and Password

All students accessing the Orientation Programs reservation site must first establish their USC Computer Account username and password and receive their USC e-mail address. Your username and password established during First Login will serve as your username and password to log into the Orientation Programs reservation site. To complete your first login, click here. Once you complete your first login, it takes 24 hours to update before you can login, provided you have received the e-mail from our department indicating the 5-7 business day timeframe has passed.

Problem Three: Internet Browser Issues

A handful of students who have tried to log in and register for an orientation session have been unsuccessful. Our technicians have determined the problem could be that your browser’s Privacy Setting is set too high (cookies should be allowed for this site). Please adjust this setting in your browser by following the directions below.

For Hotmail and MSN Messenger users:

1.Open Internet Explorer (outside of Hotmail and MSN Messenger).
2.Type the Orientation URL https://www.usc.edu/orientation</a> into the address bar and click on the “Student Reservations/Summer Orientation” link.
3.Follow the instructions below.
For Internet Explorer users:

1.Open Internet Explorer.
2.Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy tab
3.Change the slider to a maximum of Medium High. If it is higher than that, it will not work. Set it lower if it’s still not working.
4.Click on OK.
5.Change to the previous setting once you have finished registering for your session.
For Netscape users:

1.Open Netscape.
2.Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced tab.
3.Go to the bottom of that dialog box, and choose "Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server.”
4.Click on OK.
5.Change to the previous setting once you have finished registering for your session.
For AOL users:

1.Go to the following link for instructions: http://webmaster.info./cookieguide.html
We apologize for this inconvenience. If you continue to have difficulties, please contact Orientation Programs

Thank you but where did you get the email? from usc email? and when?

Got this info from S for you:
Made deposit on the evening of 4/25. The first email (see 9help9’s first post) was received on 4/28 to obtain his usc.edu email. He did this on 4/29 and the second email came to his usc.edu account on 4/30. He followed that link and was able to register. The title in the usc.edu account was “make your USC Orientation Reservation” and it was from the Orientation Programs office.

Did you get the “greetings from USC support” email when you set up your account? That came before the orientation one.

Note: your USC email and log in are NOT the same ones you use to log in to USC Connect. DS tried those first and got similar error messages. He thought he already had a user name and password, but the one required here is different- and set up through USC computer account site.

just a side note: my son has his usc email forwarded to his gmail, because the usc email system has a data quota that fills up very quickly and will bounce emails back to senders (at least this was the case the last two years). You’ll see the settings on the usc email page.

(There also used to be, and probably still is, some kind of usc gmail feature, but if you have another email you like, it’s not necessary. )
