Not gonna finish my UC igetc. How to notify?

WillDO,
i’m not sure, but it looks like you may be on the quarter system. a second semester of language is for students on a semester calendar.

Well I took spanish 1 to satisfy the igetc language requirement and Math 120 or nature of math to satisfy the math requirement. i think your fine willdo. lol.

Bur, that is weird that you need both spanish 1 and 2. and also that you need calculus or stats. i guess different ccc have different igetc requirements. but my spanish 1 class was the same as if i were to take spanish 1 and 2 in high school.

Here Spanish 1 is also known as spanish 1A & 1B

nope I am on the semester system. The IGETC thing says you only need 5 units so my 1A class satisfies the requirment. why would you need two semester classes? How many units are they worth?

they probably just break it up then instead of making it one.

willdo, which school do u attend.

each language course is 5 semester units. looking at the form now and area 6 (language), can be satisfied with a second level of language (spanish 2 for me). the pre req being spanish 1 unless high school classes have satisfied level 1 (mine did not). qualifying for and completing a level 3 or higher class also satisfies the language req.

area 2 (math) can be satisfied w/ elem. statistics, pre-calc, calculus 1 or 2, and a few tougher classes that I wouldn’t even try to complete.

strange each school seems to have a different standard for earning the igetc.
wish i knew which were easiest early on, i would have finished a while ago.

Which LA school is that?

I know Riverside doesn’t get very many transfers. Though they give lots of vocational degrees.

i looked over igetc forms from both glendale and pierce.
they’re pretty much them same.

I know at my my school and the schools in the surrounding areas require the second level of any language to satisfy the igetci requirement. Spanish 1 is transferable and counts towards the 60 units you need to transfer but can not satisfy the language requirement. I took spanish 1 and spanish 2 and have 10 units from those two classes counted towards my 60. It is true that if you took two years of a foreign language in High School you can waive the language requirement. Oh yeah I am on a semester system and go to los angeles mission college but know schools like la city college and pierce operate the same way.

That doesn’t make any sense! I checked your schools schedule and it even says that the prerequisite for taking Spanish 2 is either completing Spanish 1 or having two years of high school Spanish behind you.

I saw in the IGETC form that it requires Spanish 2, but why would that be the case!?! The IGETC requirement is supposed to be the equivalent of two years in high school! What is up with that?!

So does anyone else here only need a 1A 5 unit class to satisfy the language requirment for IGETC?

My school only requires one semester, four units.

lol good, I was going crazy hearing about needing a 2a class

My school and most IGETC’s only require ONE semester of a foreign language. You might need it as a major prep, but ONE semester fulfills the IGETC.

Does anyone know why two semesters would ever be required? Necessary to raise enrollment in their second level classes?

it’s crazy how ONE semester of a 1a class is suppose to be equal to two years of highschool. Sure enough tho, I learned more french in that one semester than I ever did in highschool. That may have just been a maturity leve tho.
