I typically vote early in person at my clubhouse…can walk to my polling place.
I resisted absentee voting for years. I enjoyed going to the polling place and running into friends and old acquaintances. The polling place was the library of the elementary school and I enjoyed revisiting a place I spent many years. It was fun to see the rile my kids painted when they rebuilt the computer center. No curtains just a booth with sides for privacy. I would fill in my sample ballot at home and just transfer it onto the ballot which was bubble in with the provided pen.
Now that the ballots are sent to everyone I do mail in. I return my ballot to the county elections box. They have boxes around town so it’s very easy. I don’t trust the USPS. Like others I get a text message that my ballot was received.
I’m in California
I am a member of a local nonpartisan group which is promoting voting, especially early and in person. We are connecting with neighbors and trying to form additional connections in order to be pro active in case we need to be.
Last night I went door to door on my block and talked to neighbors about our group, about voting and about an event the group is hosting. People were overwhelmingly nice and welcoming. I was a bit nervous as at least two people I spoke with have different political opinions than mine, everyone was great. I encouraged everyone to vote even those I know I disagree with ( cause we all have that right).
This was totally out of my comfort zone, but I’m so glad I did it.
One year my son was unexpectedly hospitalized. We had to drive to the county office, get an emergency form to allow one of us to be authorized to get a “mail in ballot” for him, then take it to him, have him complete it, then return the forms to the election office all by 5 pm.
We did it even though it took hours out of our day.
One of my great honors when my mother was homebound (in June 2020 due to Hospice and Covid) was to help her fill out her desired primary selections on mail-in ballot. At age 89, one of her very few regrets was knowing she’d not be around long enough to vote in the November elections.
CT. Have always voted in person. I live in a small town (no lines) and enjoy voting in person, day of.
My town never sent any receipt emails and we don’t know if local propositions have passed until weeks later and I have to look them up because the results are gone from the front pages by then. Why, I don’t know.
Virginia by mail.
Virginia. Usually vote early in person, but the last few years when I was working at home I’d go vote on Election Day around 11am or so when the polling place was likely to be quieter. I’ve never used a mail in ballot.
