It was a quiet day in Chicago with only one homicide, a shooting in Woodlawn. But the night is still young, and some of the people shot, knifed or beaten might pass away and turn into homicides.

A man was shot dead in Woodlawn early Wednesday, police said.

At 3:30 a.m., officers responding to a call of a “man down” found the man lying on a sidewalk in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said. The man had been shot in his head and right side and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was 40 to 50 years old, but officials were not yet sure of his identity or what led up to the shooting, police said.

No one was in custody.

BTW, this location is between three to four blocks south of the UChicago campus.

@Zinhead , amazing how we never hear about the carnage in progressive St. Louis, Baltimore, or Chicago anymore. But one politician gets shot and the airwaves melt down. I’m not trivializing it, but when the media is obsessed with non existent conspiracies and whipping up the fringe elements it detracts from focusing on actual problems. I suppose that is too much to ask.
