I copied this from the course catalog:
HONORS 0102, 0103, and 0104 are the required seminars for Chancellor’s Scholars after their first semester, developing an intellectual community that reads and discusses issues across the disciplines. Ongoing topics will concern the historical origins of the university, the roles of the university today, the value of disinterested knowledge and individual attainment, social obligations from and to scholars, and liberal education vs. specialization. One of the goals of this seminar is to help students gain perspective of their place within a broader intellectual community. This includes examining our relationships with historical figures, educational philosophies, as well as the practicalities of interacting with faculty. We will explore the role such matters have in your undergraduate education as well as in preparation for your post-baccalaureate endeavors.
From this, I get the idea they’re looking for “budding intellectuals” to develop. I’m hoping for an interview, because I think S promotes himself better in person than via essay, but I’m not expecting anything, because the odds are just too long.
