Notre Dame/Holy Cross Gateway Program 2024

My child just got their official ND acceptance! Even with Covid, the GW experience was great. I think those kids have a real bond with each other that will carry thru their time at ND. The only difficulty I’ve heard of is a few of the 7.0’s getting into the college/major they were looking into. Emily has been GREAT all year and I’m assuming she will get them in the right place.

@Fin2019 Congratulations to your son and the family! The coming academic year will be exciting.

Which colleges/majors were limited/harder to get in? Also, did they talk to Gateway students about ND on-campus housing options for next year?

They just got ND on-campus housing information last week. With no students in study abroad, will Gateway kids be able to get on-campus housing? They only tell them 2-3 weeks in advance so it makes it hard if they don’t get housing.

@Fin2019 Yes, this is the reason I had asked the question on ND on-campus housing options for Gateway transfers earlier. Please keep us posted, I understand housing assignment information will start to come out by next week?

Frankly, it is not easy to predict how it will work out, for example: an additional number of sophomore/junior students might have decided to move off-campus following the latest announcements in this respect, freeing up space for transfers and displaced study-abroad students etc. The deadline for opting out of the housing contract is tomorrow June 30th, so we all will know more on or around July 7th, I believe. Best of luck and success to all students and families affected!

@FIN2019 Best of luck with ND Residence Hall announcements today!

@Fin2019 @hpcsa our DD received an email that as GW transfer she would here on the 17th. Has something changed? She also requested special accommodations due to a severe good allergy so I’m not sure if that’ll change anything for her?

@HM0527 Interesting, I understand First-Year assignment notices will be going out this afternoon. It appears then that transfer student assignments will come a week later. Best of luck to all, transfer on-campus housing might be a specific challenge this year. How does ND approach food allergies on residence hall level - single room/air conditioning consideration?

@hpcsa DD requested either a roommate with the same allergy or a single. She was informed they would do their best to accommodate so we shall see. I have a feeling her placement may be a little different than other GW’s due to the accommodations. If GW don’t get assigned a dorm, do they live off campus?

@HM0527 To my knowledge, unlike some transfer students from other universities/colleges, thus far Gateway students who had wanted to live on-campus have all been offered a ND resident hall option. Hopefully this will continue for everyone this year. I agree, the accommodation request might help, as it is being handled separately. Off-campus poses additional challenges for Sophomore transfers, let’s discuss if it were to come to this - hopefully it won’t. Best of luck!

We were also told that July 17 was when we find out. It will be very difficult to start orientation on the 5th if we don’t get housing. Fingers crossed!

@Fin2019 we are thinking apartment if they don’t get housing. Is the 5th a for sure move in date for GW?

It’s either the 3rd or 5th based on your assignment. Do we think any decent apartments are still available. I’m guessing most in the area have already been scooped up by kids intending to live off campus from the beginning.

@Fin2019 - a quick look at Apartments.com appears to show many available at the usual student options like University Edge. It depends on your budget. My DS is a rising Jr. They are supposed to live on campus for 3 years. While some might be able to afford both, I expect all but seniors will be on campus. This “should” make more apartments available.

The Class of 2023 was the first class with the 3 year requirement so hopefully the others are going off campus. I just think that being on campus in the first 2 years is really better for the kids …but that’s just me.

@Fin2019 I totally agree!

The housing assignment came today!! Very relieved to get that crossed off. It looks like they paired the GW kids together in a lot of cases (which is different than normal I’m told). Hopefully everyone else got housing as well!!

Welcome Completely Home!!! This year has been a total mess for housing. My son was supposed to be in London this Fall. He was glad to at least make it back to his residential hall. All will be good! Love Thee Notre Dame!

Our DD was placed in Howard (single). She’s thrilled. It’s the hall she wanted.
