Notre Dame Leadership Seminars 2015

Hey everyone. Applying for the American Culture here - should have my app finished by Saturday :slight_smile: good luck to everyone!

Hello. I’m applying to Globa Issues! I’m from Italy and took the TOEFL and 2 SATs Subject Tests and will take the ACT on April 18th. Since I didn’t take the PSAT, will this hinder my chances to get in? Plus do you think that two letters of rec would enhance my application?
Thank you guys!

frspzz- I think Notre Dame will definitely understand since you are from Italy- the PSAT is pretty much mandatory for all American students. The fact that you took 2 SAT Subject tests really helps, that way they have some sort of test score for you. I would only send 1 one letter of rec- you don’t want to give them more than they are asking for. Best of luck!

gigglebot3- send in the ACT Score! Congrats on doing so well on the test. You really want to show them what you can do, and sending in a mediocre SAT score will make them start second guessing you. Show them your best!

The only thing I’m not confident about is the second essay. I mean I wrote about an experience only, while the first one I think it is pretty good (wrote 300 words tho). Anyways I’m applying to Yale Young Global Scholars as well!

@frspzzā€Œ
Does it accept 300 words?

Hey guys! Applying to Global Issues. I’m struggling with the first essay- I feel like everything I write sounds naive and superficial.

@EveningSwanā€Œ
Right? For any of these topics, I think anything I write will sound rather stupid in comparison. ND application wasn’t as bad, but my other application essays are really naive.

omg you guys when is the teacher recc due

@teenagecrimeā€Œ I assume when the application is due! (January 23rd)

On the second essay, would it be a bad idea to write about an extracurricular? Would that be too borderline to be an ĀØexperienceĀØ?

oh god i hope it is not too long my teacher has a family emergency and won’t be around until Wednesday

@gigglebot3ā€Œ
An extracurricular can definitely be an experience, but you’ll probably want to specify a time or event within the extracurricular.

did I just do so,etching horrible by not waiving my rights for the recommendations?? I didn’t know it was taboo to do so I just didn’t think I should completely waive my right idk but now I can’t change it like will that upset my teacher??? Will it look bad for admissions??

Something*

Applying to Global Issues seminar. Do you think I’ll be penalized for a 300 word count? It was impossible to narrow it down.
Good luck to all applying!

@gigglebot3 I personally waived my right but I doubt it’ll negatively affect you–it is the law, after all. In fact, there’s a loophole in FERPA that allows you to view your college admission transcripts later on—re: http://www.buzzfeed.com/mollyhensleyclancy/heres-how-to-see-what-college-admissions-officers-wrote-abou?bftw&utm_term=4ldqpfp#.tjZ5Q0NYW.

@trfox7ā€Œ Thank you for your response, I had a little freak out about that but they say on the site it won’t effect admissions so hopefully that’s accurate :smile:

Hey guys Im trying to get into the Science one! So as far as the essays go Im prety confident about them, but I’ve only taken the SAT once and my score is a 1660. My PSAT scores are in the 60s for crit reading/writing but my math scores for both tests are pathetically low :-S Do you think they would ever consider me?

@Destrxctā€Œ It’s always worth a try! Though your scores aren’t stellar, you could save yourself with some really good essays or by bringing diversity to the table. It isn’t a huge app fee and it’s a tuition-free program so why not give it a shot? Plus, even if you don’t get in, the application gives you some good experience for college apps next year! :smile:

Just submitted my application for American Arts and Social Change! I’m from Indiana, so I’m sure I’m kind of a long shot, but it never hurts to apply.
