November 2008 SAT Critical Reading

^^ The parents were friends w/ each other

I put cousins. you cannot assume that parents are friends

you also can’t assume they’re cousins though

which is why i put mutual friend

you also can’t assume they’re cousins though

which is why i put mutual friend

they’re definitely cousins

if you look at the top, it said that b— was his uncle
then mrs. verma says that b— was her father

therefore… cousins!

hmm…i didn’t see where mrs. verma said b— was her father…ah well

I need confirmation!!

Book owned by uncle:

 1. overjoyed (when he fell to his knees)
 2. shock or joyful (when she laughed)
 3. mutual acquaintance
 4. solemn
 5. composed
 6. book held her captive
 7. passage told the past experiences of characters

poetry:

 1. statistical evidence was misleading
 2. “students” referred to specialization of poetry

yea. didnt it say that they were college friends?

He wasn’t her father. He was Alu’s uncle and Mrs. Verma’s father’s friend. Therefore, they were raised by people that were friends.

No. It was given to her father by her father’s very close friend, who was his uncle. So they were raised by mutual friends.

i put mocking not solemn…

and relief…not shock/joyful

Ace: I said her laughter = relief (because she was “alarmed” before laughing - maybe she thought he was having a seizure or something).

I did put solemn though, because the sentence used the word “gravely.”

i put they’re cousins but then i keep second guessing. cuz i thought verna’s father’s friend was alu’s uncle, which makes THEIR PARENTS FRIENDS AKA WHAT BUTTTERYNUT SAID.

Sorry for the double post, but wasn’t it “relief?” She was alarmed at first, but when he said it she laughed.

I put “they were raised by people who knew each other” and I’m almost certain that’s right. The book was given by Alu’s uncle (Bala or whatever) to Mrs. Verma’s father. Their guardians were friends, but that’s all you can assume.

Besides, how could they have been cousins? It says “new acquaintance,” and the narrator grows up with his uncle. The woman’s dad raises her. What, were there two separate houses that the unclefather kept? ;D

I agree with highopes.

The italic intro said that it was his uncle and that Alu and Mrs. Verma had just met or something.

I’m 99% sure it was that they were raised by people who were friends.

yes i put relief and solemn

How do you tell if you had experimental cr?

i put relief and solemn for those two
