November 2008 SAT Critical Reading

wait so was the answer something like
the elephant being traced by the author?

I thought she was looking for a living elephant, not an ancient one.

the elephant wasnt ancient at all. It was a normal elephant that left artwork made by utilizing a pebble.

i agree with ace and fianchetto

does anyone remember the sentence for discern? with the other answers?
I just don’t remember it…

Ace/fianchetto/someone who thought they got less than 5 wrong on CR should repost the compiled list…

the vocab one with the answer as copious and acerbic - does any1 know what the questions was and what were some of the other choices?

monkeyaone- the discern question was about a powerful telescope being able to discern even gases and dust

does anyone remember that question about what the description (what he sow the book ) meant ??

what were the other choices besides discern

what was the misplaced…unsavory question??
i probably got it wrong :frowning:
does anyone remember the choices?

^ question about copious and acerbic was basically (in regular english, b/c I don’t remember the question exactly):

Some author wrote longgg, “stinging” notes in the side margins of books.

= copious, acerbic.

was the poetry section experimental

what was the sentence completion about preclude?

what were the other choices to the copius and the preclude questions

and once again substance = meaningfulness or usefulness, NOT reality.

the lady in the beginning was rushing to the tree to find him and running around the entire park, but never could seem to spot him. to her, it was like he didn’t exist, until she found his markings. that substance was proof of his “reality”. she needed that to feel connected to the elephant, to know that it was real and she wasn’t just chasing around something she would never get close to.

ok that is completely wrong, she was watching him ALL day, the elephant was right in front of her…the substance she was looking for was something that wud be useful and meaningful to something she didnt already kno…

i dont kno why u think the elephant tracker didnt have the elephant infront of her the entire time, it was pretty obvious

I think I’m going to end up with -5 or -6… damn. As long as I improve my 700, I guess it’ll be okay. CR was tricky this time. I just read through like 10 pages of arguing and I just wanted to say:

On the bioluminescence one, the answer is paradox, not dangerous situation.

I still think substance meant “usefulness”, same reasons as arghuman said

Relationship between Alu and Mrs. Verma is that they were raised by people who knew each other, and I’m 100% sure that’s right.

On the comic book one, does anyone remember the q or other choices for the 4th question? The one where the answer is “he used personal experiences”? I remember putting something about using comics as an educational tool… ugh.

Also, does anyone remember the question for which the answer was “personification” or the other answer choices? I can’t remember that one at all…

to address your last question, it was talking about when the guy first sees the book.

the detail was subtle, but in the passage it said the book “smiled” at him

edit: to be more specific, it was asking which literary technique was used
