November 2010 MATH 2 Discussion Thread

I’ve had a 360 and my best friends have PS3, lol.

But anyways before this becomes a flame war…

I really hope the curve is lenient, I’ve got no basis for comparison but it was way easier than the sparknotes practice tests that I took.

I thought the test was actually similar to Barron’s in terms of difficulty, but that’s just my opinion. If the test was harder than usual (which most people are saying), then the curve should be more lenient, right?

i thought the test was much more difficult than the sparknotes practice tests i took… hoping for 700+ :(

Only took 1 Sparknotes pt test and scored 680. Dreaming of an 800 :(. I got 1 omit and 1 wrong already.

^you shouldn’t worry! 1 omit and 1 wrong = 800 for sure (if that’s all you got wrong/omitted)

I omitted like 8 lol
and probably got 6+ wrong… oh god I am so dumb and inferior compared to all the CCers

at this point, I know i omitted 7-9 questions and got 2 wrong so far. I’ll be perfectly happy with anything above a 650. (yes, I know, it doesn’t take a lot to satisfy me)

I omitted about the same amount that you did ^
So far, I think I probably got 5+ wrong
hoping for 600+ LOL praying for 700+!

13 more days
the tension mounts

I’m a little disappointed with this thread now. We need some more discussion, more math problems, more worrying, more tension! That’s what make a thread a great thread! So, what was the answer with the long-distance and local phone calls? 2/9 or 4/9 and please explain your reasoning why in a clear, concise manner, if you will.

I put 2/9… but I understand how people got 4/9. So I’m hoping that it’s 2/9, but fully understand if it isn’t.

I just multiplied (I think?) the two fractions presented. It was probably more complicated, but I just didn’t see it…

^ Yeah I put 2/9 also. I did the simple multiplication, but I have a feeling that is too simple for a #49.

4/9, there was a fine explanation earlier in the thread, which you should take a look at before asking again since you seem to have seen it.

@chicken1992 & owlehn, same :frowning: guess we failed lol

P[both long distance]: 1/31/3=1/9
P[both local]: 2/32/3=4/9
P[both long distance] + P[both local]+P[one local, one long distance]=1 (all the possibilities)
So
P[one local, one long distance]=1-(P[both long distance] + P[both local])=1-(4/9+1/9)=1-5/9=4/9

But I put 2/9 also… : (

Wait so when do scores come out exactly?

^November 23, 5am EST.

I can’t wait! I need to see my score, no matter how bad it probably is

Just a general question to the people who are predicting bad scores and such: are you planning on retaking it? I guess this is more aimed at people who are seniors; I, as a senior, signed up for the Dec. one, but that is like the last one for most schools, so hopefully, if I don’t get sub-700, I won’t retake. I’m just trying to get an insight into other students. I mean, I probably should have taken this exam as a junior rather than senior…

I am a senior. If I do really, really bad on it (as in 500s or lower), I will retake it in January (last possible date for most schools-e.g. Harvard) along with any other subject tests that I want to retake. If I get 600s, I still might retake.

Math thread, I revive thee!
Okay, who is nervous? Results in 9 days.
9 days until I can see how much I failed
lol

RainbowSprinkles, thou art obsessed with this creation of mine. :)

But I do agree with you, the Subj Test forum seems dead nowadays.

Yeah, I guess nobody wants to add anything to this thread
well, I can’t wait !!!
