NPR-I want my 5 minutes back

I loved that story. I love stories about things I’ve never heard of. And I laughed out loud at the postscript about the robbery. Perfect NPR in my opinion.

Different strokes . . .

I read slashdot daily - one of the most interesting places for tech, geek and nerd news. The typical person wouldn’t know what to make of the place and would probably be horrified by the comments on articles if they could understand them.

I do like to learn about things outside of my field, both in technical areas and in non-technical areas and articles a little outside of my comfort zone can be quite interesting.

My radio is set to NPR about 95% of the time. I pay for membership in our local station too. I don’t mind the little 5-minute fluff pieces. If nothing else they are good for provoking conversation - this thread being a case in point.

I do sometimes get bored when they do something like put on a 20-minute piece on the provincial elections in Mozambique or some such place. I also find it hilarious when they do movie reviews of foreign films and they play scenes over the air that are completely baffling to most American listeners because we can’t see subtitles over the radio.

But I must be the only NPR fan in the world who can’t stand Car Talk. Those two guys obviously consider themselves to be totally hilarious. But I just find them irritating. They are constantly and obnoxiously laughing at their own unfunny “jokes.” They’d be far better off just sticking to giving car advice and leaving the lame attempts at humor behind.

Actually I did not need to know about it nor apparently does anyone else. It will soon join that massive pile of silly interent crapola with all the Dotcoms that nearly ruined our economy the last time it crashed. That is part of what bothered me–NPR lending some legitimacy to this scam to avoid legal detections. There are reasons we have banking laws. Very good reasons.
