NROTC scholarship

If you are fortunate enough to receive a NROTC scholarship it will be to one school on your list. The Navy will decide. If you want to take a chance that the one school is the same as the one you want to apply to, then of course that is your decision. Keep in mind that the NROTC application requires that you list at one (2?) state schools.

The Army will approve you for UP TO five schools on your list. Sometimes all five, sometimes none. You should (IMHO) list as many schools as you are willing to attend (preferably five).

As for the time line for approval. The NROTC & AROTC scholarship boards meet about every 4-8 weeks beginning in October. Depending on which (if any) board approves your scholarship and when your applications to your colleges are due, will determine whether you HAVE TO apply to schools where you don’t receive a scholarship.

Free advice: These scholarships are getting more competitive . There seems to be less money in the military budgets for them, and more applicants competing for them. Do NOT over think the process. List five schools on each application, complete your application as soon as possible (August is good), and apply to every one of the five schools on your applications (even if you don’t want to attend) as soon as they will accept your application.

After you (hopefully) get your offers from the USNA, NROTC, USMA & AROTC, you can sort out your options and decide which one you want.

Good Luck!
