I’m so sad! I’m sure the virtual courses will be interesting, but there’s nothing quite like going to the country.
Could NSLI-Y possibly roll over the program and let finalist who got it this year go next year so they don’t have to reapply? I saw someone on the Facebook alumni chat say that we could email them and request this, but is there a possibility that NSLI-Y would do this?
No, I think someone stated that NSLI-Y will not roll over the program. If you are chosen as a summer finalist for the virtual program this year, you still have to reapply for next year. This honestly sucks for seniors who will have to apply through CLS instead of NSLI-Y next year.
Does anyone know if NSLI-Y will still release finalist notifications for Korean summer for example? They said finalist will get first pick or something for the virtual program so will they still notify us around this time if we were finalist or not??
I’m going to be applying for next year, if I get rejected can I apply again until I get accepted? (same year)
You can reapply to NSLI-Y as long as you meet all the requirements. Many applicants apply multiple times before getting accepted.
Has anyone gotten notifications for China or Korea Summer yet? I’m worried because it’s the middle of April and I still haven’t gotten anything.
@TheAYU on the NSLIY Alumni FB group, NSLI-Y staff commented that summer notifications (for virtual) would come out this week, don’t be worried 
they’re probably just busy putting everything together in such short notice
Are all Academic year semifinalists going to be notified by April 23 still? Or is it extended to the end of the month? Also, I thought I saw something about the YES program being announced a little while ago. Does anyone know if the YES program is shortened at all or if it is on schedule if it has come out? I am so nervous waiting.
Currently there has been no decision about whether or not the YES program will be shortened. However, CBYX, which is also run by the state department, has cut all of their programs into a semester. So they will run from January to July instead
@Darcy787 Where did you hear that AY could be notified on the 23rd? I only got the email saying mid-April.
@20Undecided20 On the website if you go to the timeline it says that all semi-finalists will be notified of their status by April 23rd
An email sent two weeks ago by NSLI-Y to AY semi-finalists said “… the selection process is proceeding as planned and we will share an update on the status of AY programs and selection in mid to late April.”
Has anyone who applied from summer received an email regarding virtual finalists?
No not yet!! I was under the impression that they’d release today but I guess not
