This is the wisest advice from momzhood. Great post about the need to look into the subtle nuances at each and every school, whether online or through visits.
Since Brown has come up, a look at the website shows that the major has three possible strands, ethnomusicology, computer music and multimedia, or theory, history and composition. https://www.brown.edu/academics/music/ This is different from any school I have looked at, actually.
However, credit is given for lessons and there are a wide variety of performance opportunities on campus. Music classes cover the usual musicianship and aural skills in any music curriculum, and there is room to explore music classes and other subjects due to the freedom of the curriculum.
Basically, your daughter can make many schools work for her.
(We love Tufts music dept…)
I am not good at finding previous threads. I wonder if you can look up rayrick’s list of LAC’s with good music programs.
