When the kids were small, the tradition was to go out for dinner Dec 30th to avoid crowds and expense of NYE. My mother did babysitting as part of our Christmas gift.
For my job the last 15 years at work, NYE was an “all hands on deck” affair until midnight. Initially it was done all on site until midnight (or NY midnight, then log in from home), with more ability over time to do some of the holiday hours from home. It was a true joy to be retired this year, with Covid risk lower than last 2 years. We could do whatever we wanted on NYE - was a joy to be able to go to a party.
