<p>@Lergnom I went to college (Poly) there on Jay Street back in the late 70s early 80s. It was a not very nice area and pretty dicey at night when everything shut down. Was mugged in broad daylight walking between buildings at the school. If you told me 30 years ago that this area would be trendy and expensive I would think you were smoking something really good.</p>

<p>I found other places to book pod39 cheaper, I think $100/night (but as always in NYC lots of tax on top of that). But we have not changed because also considering this lead I found for my Dad and his wife:

<p>Oh… Dad could get Shoreham (cancellable) for $159. That’s not too bad for NYC. He lives in Poughkeepsie and would probably only stay 1 night. </p>
<p>Me again … taking more NYC tips. A family funeral means need to possibly replan, with kids staying longer in NYC. </p>
<p>Update - The kids enjoyed their Pod39 hotel. The room was teeny as expected, but it did the trick. </p>
<p>My Dad ended up following my lead for a room at Candlewood Suites. Normally it can be over $200, but on Christmas week weekdays he got a suite for 2 for $99/night. It came with breakfast, which he raved about. Seems like a great deal in NYC. For kicks he checked on 12/31 rate - $800. </p>
