NYT:Calling the Folks About Campus Drinking

For what its worth, I recently heard on the news (but I don’t have the sources) the same conclusions as 1of42: That drunk driving fatalities are down due to seat belt laws, airbags, MADD, speed limits and stronger enforcement, not because of the change of drinking age to 21.

In 2006, there were 17,602 alcohol-related fatalities and 13,470 fatalities involved a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, the illegal limit throughout the U.S. Today, NHTSA released state-by-state alcohol-related traffic statistics at the courthouse. Twenty-two states recorded increased numbers of drunk driving fatalities with Arizona , Kansas and Texas posting the highest increases.
