For those of you who don’t know, I was an Early Decision I applicant. I was invited to the December Candidate Weekend, though I found out I couldn’t attend at the last minute because of an issue with my passport.

NYU Abu Dhabi was kind enough to defer my invitation to the Early Decision II C-Weekend, and well, I’m happy to inform my CC family that I’ve been accepted into the Class of 2017! College Confidential has given me so much, and I plan to pay it back - expect an extended post of all my tips/advice on gaining admission in the near future!

I’ll be honest, this process hasn’t always been the easiest at times. But if you want anything bad enough, you should be willing to work day and night to get there. Congratulations to my fellow CC’ers that will join me in the fall, and to those who have been “rejected”, please do not take this as a sign of your inadequacy in any regard - we all have different paths in life, and I wish you nothing but the best as you move forward.

And to the Regular Decision applicants, good luck, and I hope to see you in the fall! :)

hi, here’s a regular applicant.
haven’t heard anything about candidate weekand from the admission office yet.
does this mean i’m out of the table for consideration?
also, there’s no standarized test scores in my albert.
emailed the office twice, got no reply yet.
looks like all the regular applicants got their invitation ten days ago…
oh blue blue blue…

i meant by “no standarized test scores in my albert” that i sent the scores from collegeboard right after my dec sat result came out but apparently the nyu system hasn’t got the report…then i emailed the admissions a printout of my score report, twice. haven’t got any reply…

I’m from San Diego. Very stoked about attending the CW on the 28th! The 20 hour flight plus the 12 hour clock advance (meaning that I have to depart on the morning of the 27th to arrive by the evening of the 28th), not so much. However, I think that people from South America may even have it worse?

Hey, for all of you who are attending the February 28th CW, can we all do each other a mutual favor and post when we are contacted regarding the flight/plane ticket? That way, if any of us still have not heard anything at that point, we will know to call the travel agency in AD to figure out what’s going on. I, for one, have not heard from anyone yet. Anyone receive any travel info yet? Thx!!

Hi scswickman,
Actually it only takes about 5 hours to get to Abu Dhabi from China, and we’re only 4 hours in advance. But I see how hard it might be for you. Not sure how that works for South America though. And I still haven’t hear anything about the ticket and everything. Guess we still have to wait for a few days.

Global/Clara: Thanks for the responses. I can only imagine the logistics of coordinating travel to AD for 80 (mostly) minors from all over the world in a short period of time. Must be a real headache. I am sure that they are working hard to get it done. Let’s all post as soon as we hear anything more.

So, Clara, if you leave Beijing at, say, 10:00 a.m. Beijing time, you would arrive in AD at 11:00 a.m. AD time? Lucky! If I leave at 10:00 a.m. San Diego time, I arrive at 7:30 p.m. AD time the next day. Not to complain. . . I would do this even if the flight took a week!

Has anyone noticed that (newly-appointed) U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will be in Abu Dhabi right around the time that we will be there? It would be really cool if he were to visit us. I actually sent an email to the State Department asking them if Sec. Kerry might be interested in meeting with us while we are there. They probably think I’m crazy!

Just received an email from NYUAD with insurance forms, instructions, course registration link, and stating that we would be contacted shortly by the travel agency with flight information.

I received the email too! Also one about the Candidate Weekend Facebook Group. Guess I can soon talk to you guys on Facebook!
And scswickman, did you get any reply for the State Department? It will be so cool if Sec. Kerry is meeting with us!

No response yet. It was pretty much of a longshot, but I figured I’d give it a try anyways. They probably have his agenda booked months in advance.

scs I don’t think that was too much to ask. Last weekend’s CW featured a visit from past UK PM Gordon Brown. Not kidding. Also, the e-tickets came just under a week prior to the departure time. We were a little anxious as well, but everything worked out wonderfully well. Enjoy the adventure.

@river: Wow, Gordon Brown! How cool! What did he talk about? Did he do a Q&A? I would have loved to meet him.

Yes, I think that it’s pretty safe to say that there are 80 families around the world right now that are a bit nervous as time approaches. Not to worry, there are still five days before flight time (six if you can leave on Thursday to arrive by Thursday evening).

scs, I’m “just the mom” so can’t report exact quotes. It looks like the CW facebook pages are not combined into one. I’ll pm you my son’s name and you can friend him if you wish. He loves to talk about NYU AD!
