NYU Class of 2019 Discussions ED1

guys after spending my thanksgiving weekend going through nearly 130 pages of the previous years ed2 applicant thread (drama and all starting on page 101) it appears that this fa change did no mean that students were necessarily accepted and also shawn abbot the head of admission at nyu addressed this rumor in one his posts last December and specifically said that albert will change all throughout the application review process and will not signify admission decisions…so long story short I’m done believing in this conspiracy theory—its completely out of our hands for now

hope this helps

here is the link to his post if you guys are interested: <a href=“MEET NYU - Home”>MEET NYU - Home;

@510shopgirl Thx!

@510shopgirl approximately how many students got the change and were not accepted?

To play devil’s advocate, although the blog states that the theory is false, it doesn’t really convince me. For me, it’s not enough to just say a theory is false without providing an alternate explanation for the correlation b/w FA changes and acceptances. Maybe i’m deluding myself in believing this theory…I probably am. I’d believe evidence that proves the theory to be false, just not a statement that only says it is.

Either way, it really is nothing to worry about. All the theory should do is allow those who’ve gotten it to think a little more optimistically. In the end, it’s called a theory because it requires a certain degree of faith - you can believe it or not, i’d suggest doing whichever you think makes it easier to get through the next 2 weeks…at least that’s what i’m doing lol

Though I am super nervous as well, I think everyone should just try not to think too much into it. We will all find out eventually, FA change or not.

What do you guys like most about NYU?

@aoeu123 Where to start?

The networking opportunities, the global campuses, and the diverse student population! :slight_smile:

But in reality there’s so much… I like everything… Except the 60% girls, 40% guys

@aoeu123‌
There are many things I love about NYU. One thing is the location. I am very close to NYC so I have grown up with it and I just fall in love with it even more every time I go there. I am a huge peoples person and there are so many interesting people I could meet, that just thinking of the possibilities makes me happy. I just love the fact that it is in the city that never sleeps.
I also really really love the study abroad at NYU. I am all about culture and studying abroad. I appreciate how strong their programs are and how much emphasis they put on diversity and other things like that. NYU literally has everything I want! I can’t see myself going anywhere else.

@aoeu123

I love that it’s in the hub of the world. I absolutely love being around people and I love the hustle and bustle of the city. I also love the academic environment of the school, the school culture, the general vibe of the area, and the endless possibilities that New York represents. There’s no better place in the world to score top level opportunities

I’m most excited to explore Bobst lol

And @fazeeeeeeel‌, it seems they don’t want them (but this is only going off of the posts I found by quickly Googling).

<a href=“Does NYU typically request first quarter grades for ED1? - New York University - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1217786-does-nyu-typically-request-first-quarter-grades-for-ed1.html</a></p>

<a href=“does NYU usually request for first quarter grades or mid year? - New York University - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/137223-does-nyu-usually-request-for-first-quarter-grades-or-mid-year.html</a></p>

@Smnparish‌ so I completely understand where you’re coming from and your questions make total sense…for the most part, the students/parents that were on that forum had the change like there were probably only a hand full that didn’t so the posters in the forum made a logical conclusion that while it would’ve been great if everyone in their forum had gotten in, that certainly was not the case. Some were accepted and others were rejected. Only two people posted that they were rejected having the change. Others posted being rejected but did not mention having the change. Also I would logically assume that others who were rejected perhaps did not return to the forum because of the nature of their situation . . . I mean if I were rejected I probably would be too upset to return to CC at least in reference to NYU since I would see others receiving their offers of admission. Anyway, I’m digressing but the point I’m trying to make is that the FA change could essentially mean something but the evidence is not substantial to prove anything which is why this just remains a theory that may or may not be true but the lack of evidence at the moment does point to no.

Also honestly, this might just be a personal opinion, but I trust the admissions reps, especially the head (Shawn Abbot). When he makes a statement like that I think he is just looking out for the wellbeing for anxious students like us lol I really don’t think they are hiding something. I kinda feel like our albert accounts are bound to change during the review process idk it just seems like a probable thing that could potentially happen.

ajhahdfhasjdksjdjsdjh honestly who cares lol whatever floats your boat for the next couple of weeks ugh

12 days left!!! This is so nerve-wracking :(

@510shopgirl‌ I hear what you’re saying buuuut…don’t you think the change happens for a reason? They wouldn’t just randomly flag some applicants and not the others? It doesn’t make sense. It does hold some substance but we’ll never know what for. All it can do right now is give us a sliver of hope.

@510shopgirl Yeah, that makes sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if the correlation b/w the change and acceptance is high only because there is also a high correlation b/w people on the forum and people who get in. I guess i’d also tend to trust the admissions reps - I’m just taking a year long course on the JFK assassination so I suppose i’ve come to be more critical of conspiracy theories and expect an alternate theory haha

As far as what I like about NYU…I could fill a book lol. For NYU in particular, I love the global opportunities; I definitely want to study abroad in Shanghai and Florence. I’ve gotten a feel for the student body over the years as well, and I couldn’t imagine a better group of people. There’s much more about NYU that I love (literally every time I hear something new about it I get excited), but it boils down to the fact that I would really feel at home at NYU, yet also be able to push myself frequently outside of my comfort zone.

For NY in general - being in the center of everything, always having something to do…it’s like the city wakes me up, it gets me energized and excited for each new day. That doesn’t happen back in Minneapolis. I’m typing this on my last day in the city over my thanksgiving break. It’s surreal to think that this is my last time here before I’ll know whether or not i’ll be able to call NY my home…well, unless I end up at Columbia or Fordham, but it definitely wouldn’t be the same.

Hi! I did ED for CAS. I love every aspect of the school, as well, and I really want to go there for journalism, since it is the place to be for it- though it’s the place to be for almost everything. Their global opportunities are amazing as well as their connections! I also applied for the Shanghai campus, so fingers crossed!!

Hey guys. Hopefully FA changes mean something but in reality this is all speculation. On my FA Summary page I have the 2016 - New York University - No self-service access for this aid year in a 3 columned-table. My to-do list is the same as everyone else’s (makes sense because all our FA stuff should’ve been in by Nov 15). I applied for merit-based need but not need-based.

Not really sure what any of these changes really mean but I think we should all just relax. 12 more days!!! Good luck everyone, I hope we all get in :slight_smile: And good luck with the rest of your college apps!

Do you guys think the FA change could just indicate your FA being reviewed (explaining why those that did not submit it received the change first)? And as for the timing, what if they are doing them by regions? Anyone else from Florida? I still haven’t received the update and am trying to come up with a logical reasoning lol

I received the change and I submitted my CSS profile. I received it on November 25th. I live in PA and I applied to the GLS program. I wouldn’t look too much into it. We will know on the 12th no matter what. I’m super nervous and I kinda want to know what it means too, but don’t sweat it!
