NYU ED Class of 2023

@nyu2023 is the student number there the same as your N-ID?

@SJ2727 nope

I lost the DC thing too, and I’ve never been able to click on “NYU Housing Payments” via Albert

Random, but just read that although the RD acceptance rate was a lot lower last year (19%) the ED acceptance rate will be higher in coming years…“Of course, with this increase will come a more competitive admissions process. And to be more specific, over the past year, we have been shifting to a strategy that is common with other Universities; admitting a higher percentage of our first year class through our Early Decision applicants who have expressed that NYU is their first choice. The resulting impact on the Regular Decision process is that admission will be slightly more competitive than in previous years.” just trying to find more threads of hope lol

also found this…“We do expect to defer about 10% of our Early Decision applicants for consideration in our Regular Decision pool. We defer candidates for admission who we need to assess against our broader applicant pool.”

@stressedsenior72 yup, I think it’s partly to protect yield. Also linked to, the most competitive candidates for NYU are probably often those using it as a backup for ivy admission, so they’d rather give the places to people they know will come, and the only way they can “know” is ED.

That makes a lot of sense. Admitting students who are more likely (or committed) to enroll is important to schools. Many of them say that ED applicants are judged by the exact same criteria and RD applicants but that doesn’t seem to be true if you look at scattergrams.

@brokeparent1970 , NYU was one of a few colleges we saw on info tours who were explicit that applying ED gives you an advantage, because you’ve shown the commitment.

The last common set data showed only a third of those admitted at NYU actually enrolled, whereas for ED it’s all except those who can’t make the financial aid work. It makes sense that they’d shift a larger part of the acceptances to ED. And then NYU isn’t wasting its time offering admission to a bunch of 4.5 gpas with near-perfect SATs or ACT scores that end up at an ivy. (And the ED applicants aren’t directly competing with this group because they’ve all ED’d or EA‘d somewhere “better” and will only apply RD at NYU.)
