NYU Gym?

the gym is free

i’ve also done a semester there, and both gyms are 100% free. so there’s your answer.

ok, the $100/sem is for students “maintaining matriculation”, which is something about not taking classes but still attending or something, i’m not really sure, but it DOESNT mean students who are taking classes full-time. full-time students don’t have to pay a fee.

this is so funny. this topic should have died a looooooong time ago. people just keep repeating the same thing over and over again. we get it, its free. let this ***** die!!

Sweet…free gym. How close is Palladium to Rubin? I’ll never let this topic die.

look at a damn map

Nope, not letting this topic die. Do we have to bring our own towels? Are lockers free for students?

i think i saw something about locker rental fees, like $35/sem.

you can borrow towels from the equipment rooms and lockers are free provided that you bring your own lock. Athletes have a separate locker room provided at Coles.

The two main gyms are Coles (Bleecker and Mercer, closest to all classes) and Palladium (14th & 3rd more or less). Some residence halls have “gyms” but they are lacking for lifting, although the treadmills and ellipticals are convinient if that’s what you’re using. My experience has been at Water Street (lacking!), Cliff Street (okay), and Greenwich Hotel (something like one old machine in the basement).

Coles is big, reminds me of a suburban YMCA but nicer. Pool, basketball court, and weight room. The weight room has older machines and weights but it is well equipped. However, the rule at Coles is that you cannot wear headphones in the weight room which sort of sucks.

Palladium is new and modern and also very purple (not the first color when I think gym but it is NYU) and very cramped. Peak times (4-8 on weekdays) have people sharing/struggling to get a bench. There are also lots of people in the gym who have absolutely no idea what they are doing, which makes the crowdedness worse.

If you don’t live around Washington Square or Union Square the gyms are a hike. Being forced to take the subway or bus to the gym (i.e. from Water) is rough. There is a NYSC right next to Water where I live that I joined for this year for the sake of convinience.

Coles has a pool? I thought only palladium did.

Coles has a pool, yes.
