I would likely go to CAS yes, and out of those majors, either journalism, politics, or economics and a minor in business studies
Yeah it def seems like UCSD is the most popular. Its a little scary for me bc I haven’t toured and also its a total 180 from what I’ve been planning to do which is commit nyu but I do have my reservations with spring start so I’m really open to going to ucsd. I guess I was clinging to NYU as to me it was more of a name school, with the smaller admit rate and all the congratulations and hype around it I got. But def leaning more towards ucsd now than before after reading these responses
Since you live in SoCal, you can go tour
Also, you can switch into any major of interest and start taking classes right away.
Just be aware that the business minor at NYU requires taking calc and the two semester sequence in statistics-- which is very often the reason why NYU Liberal Studies students who THINK they are doing the business minor do not actually do it.
You need to be honest with yourself about what you really want to study.
First off, If you have to take out loans to afford the school, you can’t afford it. If your parents are having to take out loans, are they co-signing that over to you, or paying the cost? It sounds like UCSD is the more sensible choice. $400,000 for a bachelors degree at full pay just isn’t worth the money.
Second, college is a place to gain practical job skills above all else, otherwise it’s a colossal waste of money. “Liberal Studies” and “Humanities” aren’t generally marketable majors. Neither is film. Do you plan to get a teaching certificate? You may as well go to a community college and be a dental hygienist. You can make $120,000 a year in California right out of college with no debt. You’d be far better off doing something like that instead of spending big bucks on a bachelors degree and end up working at Safeway. That would be an all-too-common expensive tragedy.
