NYU Merit Scholarships

Alix you just quoted him, didn’t you read it? He said “most”, your arguing the same thing.

Also, I was wondering about the women in science scholarship, so you have to be an intel siemens semi-finalist/finalist? Is it possible to just be woman getting a science major? Does anyone know if you can apply for this as a sophomore?

^ I’m in the Women in Science program - no, you technically don’t have to be an intel finalist/semi-finalist but I haven’t met anyone in the program who wasn’t. My advisor said it was originally created to attract women who were siemens finalists. The reason is because they choose HS applicants, and intel is the most famous science competition at the HS level - there are others of course, but if you’re looking to distinguish yourself as a science student, it’s probably the best way to do so. And I’m pretty sure they pick HS applicants and you don’t apply for it…but I guess you can ask. I know it’s hard to get a scholarship once you’re already a student here.

You guys are still missing the point.

As of 2010 (not whatever year you applied), merit scholarships requirse an application for financial aid. Depending on what type of scholarship, they will more or less consider your EFC. You can still recieve scholarships without demonstrated need according to the FASFA, but will NOT if you don’t apply!

did you have to apply for FA to get in the woman in science program? I’m an Intel/Siemens/ISEF semifinalist but I didn’t get a penny from NYU :frowning: I thought my EFC was too high so I didn’t bother to apply… darn…

i would definitely call the financial aid office if you are attending. Not sure what the parameters are to receive that scholarship, but if the only reason that you didn’t quailify is that you thought it was merit based and you didn’t file your FAFSA because you didn’t have need, they might allow you to file it late. Don’t wait!

In the past, you did not have to file a FAFSA to get pure merit aid. If you do now, then it is a new policy this year.
