im not currently enrolled in either school but i have visited NYU and have spoken to someone who actually majored in creative writing at hopkins ( i was going to go there)… yeah… JHU didn’t seem that wonderful. i guess it depends on what you’re looking for… i was going to apply to oxford (england) as an English major because im writing a book and need that kind of environment- lol- but as far as the things that shouldn’t really matter go… (like the city and the type of students) JHU sucks.

but from what i got from speaking to people who went there…
NYU’s program may not be as prestigious as JHU’s or even as “good”- but the fact that your at JHU… in BALTIMORE… basically outweighs the good. JHU is really oppressive and so is living around a bunch of cut throat pre-meds… but their undergrad program is really top notch.

but i was under the impression that writers care more about their environment and avenues of inspiration than the prestige of their school …
if you’re on of those… go for NYU- but this again is from a writer who takes the above point of view… if you want the better program independent of how you’ll actually come out of it… JHU is probably better.
