NYU or University of Washington?

I just found out that I would actually be paying about $10,000 more each year at NYU because of scholarship money. Now I’m really conflicted because in the grand scheme that doesn’t seem to be that big of a difference and NYU still is my dream school. I also think that I would work at the university if I go to NYU to help with the tuition.

Perhaps you do not realize what a gem Seattle is. Experiencing Seattle as a UW student is a lot different that as a townie. NYC is insanely expensive for almost everything. You have to send out for your laundry. It’s $30 to eat breakfast at a coffee shop. NYC, however, is wonderful with a generous budget.

To the $10K you’ll need to add $3000 in airfare, and 2-3x for other stuff like entertainment and food. No sports either.

I don’t think it’s worth it, bro. Go to UW-Seattle now and then maybe NYU for med school.

You sound like your heart really wants to go to NYU and experience something new. Talk to your family and friends. On cc it always comes down to a conversation about the price difference, choosing a college can be so much more than this. Perhaps this is the only time you can get out and experience the east coast, maybe you will get “stuck” in Washington if you stay. NYU is right in front of you, there is no guarantee such an option/location will be there for grad school. If the 10k isn’t a big deal and NYU is a dream of yours to attend, then go. You will grow more going to somewhere totally knew than somewhere right down the street from where you have always been. College is a great time to live a different life than you have always known, if that is what you want to do. Good luck.

After talking to my family, discussing the tuition and considering all of your opinions, I have decided to go with NYU! I know it may seem like a bad decision because of the tuition, but it seems worth it for my family. My motivation for the past few years was with this dream of getting to go to NYU and it’s too painful to say no to it now. I know I’ll be much happier there, so I have decided to accept it. Thank you all once again for sharing your opinions!
