***NYU Regular Decision Class of 2021 Discussion***

@kendizzle You wouldn’t have been able to submit the Common App without completing the essay.

@kendizzle If you want to check what you wrote, you can open a pdf file of your submitted application when you log on to CommonApp.

Oh ok I feel better now thanks guys

Does anyone know how we can change the address on the application? We are moving in a couple of days and want to make sure we dont miss out on any communication. Appreciate any help.

@just_nag Maybe shoot admissions office an email about change of address- does this mean that you will be changing schools because of the move…or will you still remain at same school?

Hey guys, how much will low subject test scores decrease my chances? 710 in Math Level II and 650 in Biology E(58 national percentile)?

@MuffinLord1 Thanks. No change in schools until the year ends. My son’s school allows that.

Has anyone of you received an interview? I applied to Stern, and haven’t received an interview yet. And do you know whether NYU does the likely letter stuff?

@Maggie1224 I’ve never heard of NYU doing interviews for anything but the Abu Dhabi campus. Also, very few colleges send likely letters, and it’s very rare for the colleges that do to send them. I don’t think NYU is one that does.

@Maggie1224 NYU does interviews for Stern from what I know. I didn’t apply to Stern so I can’t say about receiving one. I think my friend had one but she applied ED.

@MuffinLord1 my friend who applied to ED2 to Stern also received an interview.

Hi guys! So last year (for class of 2020) I applied to NYU and was accepted to my first choice (NYU LSP in Florence). NYU has always been my dream and is where I would like to go however, when I was admitted last spring I was unable to make it work financially. Though I was originally going to go to college elsewhere this past year, I decided to take this year off to get a job and save up money for college instead. I applied RD to NYU again (this time for class of 2021) but this time ranked my choices 1. Steinhardt media and communications 2. CAS political science 3. Gallatin 4. LSP in New York.

I have been freaking out because NYU means everything to me and is one of the main reasons I decided to take this year off. I have explained my situation in my why NYU essay. I was hoping somebody might be able to give me some insight as to whether or not I should expect to be admitted again, given that I took a gap year and applied to different programs than I did last year. I also admitted the same common app personal essay as I did last year which I’m hoping won’t put me at a disadvantage.

My Stats are:
UW: 3.5
W: 4.6
SAT: 710 math
620 reading
710 english
2040 total
AP: Environmental Science (4), Psychology (4), Physics 1 (3), English Lit (3), Statistics (4), Macroeconomics (4), US Government (4), English Language (4)
Class Rank: Top 30ish percent (I went to a really competitive high school)
Recommendations: Normal counselor rec, and very good recs from english teacher, theatre teacher, and employer from my gap year
ECs:
theatre: secretary of drama club, acted in falls shows, spring musicals, student teacher directed shows, one act, and children’s shows
member of junior varsity dance team
competitive studio dance team
party hostess at local bowling rink/laser tag/arcade
Duke TIP Summer Studies
Girl Scouts
Girls State
NHS
Nannying (what I have been doing during my gap year)
I also attended NYU precollege in the summer of 2015 and got all As.

Anyways, sorry for the long post, I’ve just been freaking out recently and wanted to see what y’all thought I should expect so I don’t get my hopes up.

What is the likely letter?

@getaclucy I do not see why you would not get in. The stats are strong and I am sure it helps that you explained the situation.

Hey guys! Does anyone know if NYU considers alternate choice majors? Also, does anyone know how competitive Gallatin or Tandon are? I applied first choice to Gallatin, but I have been unable to find much information about it!

@figgie13 Tandon is pretty damn competitive. Gallatin- I’m not so sure about. I’ve heard it’s a bit easier to get into, but if you do want to get into Tandon- it’ll be hard to transfer. When I was lurking around CC, I found a thread saying that Gallatin students are looked down upon as transfers because they are usually the weaker candidates…then again I think that was a transfer to Stern.

@MuffinLord1 Thanks! I’m not planning on transferring if I’m admitted to Gallatin. Tandon was my second choice though because I plan to customize a major that combines engineering possibly with business. If anyone else can find anymore info. about Gallatin, that would be awesome! There doesn’t seem to be a lot out about it and I haven’t heard of anyone so far applying to it.

@figgie13 From what I’ve heard Gallatin is the easiest school at NYU to gain admission to. I mean it’s still competitive but compared to Stern and Tisch less so.

How competitive to you think Steinhardt is? I applied under their MCC major and my resume practically revolves around ideal characteristics and backgrounds for that major.
