NYU Shanghai Class of 2018

Marinozai,
Coming to Shanghai I knew how to say hello and tell someone it was nice to meet them. Minimal Chinese, in other words. I have taken Elementary Chinese 1, the first level of the Chinese program in the Global Network and can now write over 400 characters and can get by in Shanghai by myself. Still nowhere near close to fluency, but enough to survive here. Shanghai is a global city though and many people speak English (in some places more than others). However, I am very close to one of my Chinese roommates and she helped me a lot in the beginning of the year seeing as I couldn’t even get lunch on my own.

It’s easier to talk via e-mail for me. So if you have other questions feel free to email me at mpf293@nyu.edu
