tineo sometimes gives wrong info tbh even tho he is quite goated, nyu has always been known for waitlisting a lot of people, this isn’t something that is new to this year. it’s their way of managing their yield. i got waitlisted ed2 so i went down a massive investigation into this whole waitlist thing and there are so many instances online of people saying that they know multiple people who got off the NYU waitlist, in fact many students at NYU right now have stated that many of their friends who attend were accepted from the waitlist. i dont know if NYU did waitlist more people this year than normal, but its undeniable that NYU is a school that will accept a lot of people from the waitlist, esp considering the current economical and political state of the country. Everyone I know who got into NYU RD isn’t committing to the school and from groupchats I’m in, a lot of people who got in ED also isn’t choosing to attend due to monetary reasons or that they didnt get into the major they wanted. also considering applied psych isn’t a major NYU is known for (like taking psych at NYU or any other school isn’t going to make a big difference compared to if u were to take finance at stern vs a state school), so their yield for the major might be lower. All of my friends that I know who got waitlisted were all stern applicants. I’ve also read instances of people getting off in LSC or spring admit which def significantly increases chances of getting off. Though, historically, NYU’s waitlist has always been need-aware, since on last year’s NYU waitlist thread, most or all of the people who got off were full-pay and i think the percetnage of the people who reported being accepted from the waitlist on that thread was quite decent. NYU is known to have ■■■■ financial aid for middle class families that don’t qualify for NYU’s promise but also can’t spend an upfront of 70k dollars a year for an undergrad degree (I might get some info wrong lol since its been a while but trust me when I say NYU’s waitlist acceptance has never been “close to zero” as what tineo said in one of the comments)

Since NYU doesnt report waitlist information unfortunately, I think the case of NYU’s waitlist is similar to one like UMICH (another school i got waitlisted in lol), umich last year waitlisted around 20k~ people and around 1k~ was accepted which is more or less 5%, but then it shows that a lot of people were waitlisted but then a lot of people were also accepted from the waitlist (1k is a lot considering the number of undergrad enrollment). Also i think waitlist is such a situational thing to the point where acceptance rate from the waitlist is not really representative of the situation bc some majors will 100% have a higher yield rate compared to others others (goes back to my point of psych being a major where u go for undergrad doesnt rlly matter).

Yesss so true! I’ve been keeping this in mind for the upcoming May and maintaining hope because there’s no way it’s a 0% chance as nyu doesn’t have the greatest yield for certain schools aka steinhardt

I just heard from a college counselor on ig. He said only ed waitlist is moving as of now. Hopefully they get to rd too sooner rather than later :crossed_fingers:t3:
