Obama now plays the race card...

I told you why. His playing the race card after his New Hamphshire primary loss was one of the most despicable political moves I’ve ever seen. It told me everything I need to know about the man.

<p>Well, the fact that you hate a man you’ve never even met and are willing to vote against a candidate you agree with on most of the issues tells me everything I need to know about you.</p>

<p>How can any rational person suggest that Obama is not simply squarely addressing an issue that some people will have to get over in order to vote for him? </p>

<p>For heaven’s sake, no one can deny that people have tried to convince gullible members of the public that he is a Muslim. They have tried to convince gullible members of the public that a paper his wife wrote in college proves that they are “radicals” of some kind. They have tried to pin the sometimes-wild-eyed rhetoric of his minister on him. And on, and on, and on.</p>

<p>To deney that these things–his race, his “funny name” --are not issues in winning the support of some Americans is simply disengenuous. To use a nice word.</p>

<p>He has every right to address these issues, but linking it to McCain–who has denounced all these Obama smearing-- is a totally different ball game. There is absolutely no evidence that McCain is doing any of the things he talked about.</p>

<p>The ad is about vacuous celebrity. Tiger Woods has earned his celebrity with his record of accompishment unlike the figures featured in the McCain ad.</p>

<p>^I think this is correct, and also why it annoys the Obama campaign so much. It makes Senator Obama’s celebrity in Europe a joke.</p>

<p>Yep. Strategically, they turn his celebrity against him as well as turning widespread anti-European “socialism” sentiments against him. As Sen. Lindsey Graham quipped this week, “Well, it looks like we’ve lost Germany’s electoral college votes”.</p>

<p>Tactically, McCain has just spoiled all the second coming of messiah footage from the European trip that Obama had planned to use to build a Potemkin Village of foreign affairs experience. Additionally, by skewering him as Brittney Spears, McCain turns the whole stadium rock concert acceptance speech against him. With any luck The One will use a headset microphone like Brittney and throw in some dance moves during his Resurrecti…er, I mean…nomination. </p>

<p>This for a guy that was bleeding profusely down the stretch run of the primaries and needed some Daley style jujutisu in Fla and Mi to be awarded the nomination.</p>

<p>McCain is manipulating all of the stupid Americans who continually vote against their economic interest so that a few wealthy people–including myself actually haha–can have it good while they suffer. Surprisingly, they never learn their lesson.</p>

<p>Just a thought, Republicans ought to be careful about doing something to actually improve the quality of education in this country. If they’re not careful and actually succeed in creating a better educated America, they won’t have as many stupid people and stupid, racist people to prey on.</p>

<p>You have every right to your opinion, but you need to remember there are two sides to every story. I don’t see a lot of people sitting here and saying the democrats need to do XY and Z or otherwise America will be filled with ignorant people.</p>

<p>Obama didn’t play any “race card”. He pointed out the truth: the GOP strategy is to throw everything they can at him to make him look “different” to try to scare people away from voting for him. </p>

<p>Obama also did not charge that McCain was being racist. Rather, the Editorial Board of the New York times pointed that out with this editorial on July 30: </p>

When we commented today about the cheesy, negative tone of Senator John McCain’s campaign — we called it the Low-Road Express — we thought we’d seen some pretty low-brow and witless attack ads.
But a new McCain ad has just emerged that, as you can see here, really sets a new low.</p>

<p>But it has more sinister overtones, a ham-handed attempt to belittle Mr. Obama as a person that brings back unpleasant memories of the racist campaign run by the Republican Senate campaign committee against Harold Ford in Tennessee in 2006.</p>

<p>The low point of that campaign was the “Fancy Ford” Web site, where the Republicans showed pictures of Mr. Ford, along with expensive restaurants, high-end cigars and Playboy bunnies, all of whom were white. (Nudge. Nudge. Say no more.).</p>

If the shareholders of the New York Times ever wonder why the paper’s ad revenue is plummeting and its share price tanking, they need look no further than the hysterical reaction of the paper’s editors to any slight, real or imagined, against their preferred candidate. This campaign has never engaged in ‘racially tinged attacks,’ and the Obama campaign conceded as much yesterday in a statement clarifying that “Barack Obama in no way believes that the McCain campaign is using race as an issue.”
That the Times made this allegation in a blog post rather than running it on the editorial page indicates that they either knew the charge was bogus or they didn’t have the nerve to make their case in full view of the public. But in their new role as bloggers, the paper’s editors seem to have all the intelligence and reason of the average Daily Kos diarist sitting at home in his mother’s basement and ranting into the ether between games of dungeons and dragons. They also have about as much care for the facts–the “board” has already been forced to append a correction.
