Obama "Plagiarism"

The name thing was brought up around here even before 2006. I hope Obama will lay off the minutia and not get in the mud with the Clintons.

She has certainly changed her tone since the first Couric interview when she claimed she had never considered not being the nominee, because “it will be me”.

And I would love to see a woman be President–just not THAT woman.

Off thread for a second did you see the Jay Leno clip with her being interviewd by Elizabeth Snow (?)…it was very funny.

Back on thread…

As much as many people do not want to acknowledge this, it was a smart play by the Clinton’s. Obama has been the media darling, b/c he is a clean slate, now they are talking about this and the release that he was ranked as the most liberal senator regarding his voting record, the mainstream media is starting to lurk around his record.

I actually think Hillary is now the underdog, so they are now going after Obama.

I do give Obama credit for coming clean and saying I did plagiarized, please forgive me.

Politics as usual…It is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission>

not a smart move imo. because it just give ammunition to show how she has used some of the same ideas, phrases, etc…he didn’t say he plagerized…he said he used a phrase that he and his good friend discussed…and maybe should have given him credit, that is not admitting to plagerizm which this was not

mini - I think I must have remembered some reference you made to voting for McCain before and assumed you leaned Republican. Like I said, I didn’t take the time to go through all your 7000+ posts to figure out how I had discerned that, but you have obviously given serious thought to the possibilities.

Definition of plagiarism by wikipedia:

If you don’t parse the definition or Obama’s stance and take it for the definition it would be plagiarism. The mainstream media is running both speeches side by side, line by line, they are identical which would be plagiarism. SInce Deval Patrick has not come out to defend the speech, it really looks like plagiarism

Teri, the last person I would believe to be a republican is Mini.

^^

[ABC News: Patrick: Obama Plagiarism Charge ‘Not Fair’](<a href=“Patrick: Plagiarism Accusation Against Obama 'Extravagant' - ABC News”>Patrick: Plagiarism Accusation Against Obama 'Extravagant' - ABC News)

<<The man credited with writing Sen. Barack Obama’s “power of words” speech today called the plagiarism accusation “not fair” and said it was an attempt to “belittle his ability to motivate people.”

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick told “Good Morning America” that Sen. Hillary Clinton was wrong to accuse Obama of poaching his lines.

“It’s an elaborate charge and an extravagant one,” Patrick said.

The accusation has dominated the debate as Obama and Clinton battle for votes in today’s Wisconsin primary.>>

This is from Jake Tapper ABC news:

I think that this is more of a political handler and a candidate that didn’t realize this would become a story, unfortunatley, now it is bringing in more inconsistencies since Patrick said the conversation occured in 2007, and they are showing duplicates dating back to 04.

I only add this because I just found this come across the AP in the last hour

They have the same speechwriter and manager… it’s not a big issue. It’s like two baseball players using the same pitching coach.

The good news is that this kind of smear tactics helps to toughen Obama and his campaign staff for the upcoming general election. It’s like a practice game.

I still think the speech was plagiarism. I first heard it delivered in 1976 when Eileen Sheehan was running against Rick Triano for high school class president. I thought it was trite back then…

Sounds to me like a lazy speechwriter trying to recycle his best material!! Kind of like recycling your best college essays. ;)

I’m reminded of th story of the time when the Marx Brothers were threatened with a suit by Warner Bros. because they were filming a comedy called “A Night in Casablanca.” Warners Bros. accused them of plagiarizing the title from the Bogart film. Groucho’s response:

kluge - how do you find this stuff? LOL

"Sounds to me like a lazy speechwriter trying to recycle his best material!! "

is this also recycling?

Once again, a Democratic spouse is taking heat for comments on the campaign trail — and this time it isn’t Bill Clinton.

It’s Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle, who is under fire from conservatives for saying in Milwaukee, Wis., on Monday: “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.”

[Michelle Obama Takes Heat for Saying She’s ‘Proud of My Country’ for the First Time - You Decide 08!](http://youdecide08.foxnews.com/2008/02/19/michelle-obama-takes-heat-for-saying-shes-proud-of-my-country-for-the-first-time/)

The article is slanted, but it begs the question will she not be proud of our country if Hillary wins the nom?

There are times that you may be upset with what your country is doing, but to say for the 1st time is either rhetoric, pandering or just sad at her age.

This country has made mistakes, but I am proud of the fact that we don’t imprison people for their political beliefs.

Conservatives making a big deal out of Michelle Obama’s speech is Exhibit 1 for why I have no respect for the right wing.

I love my country but I am not “really proud” of my country every single day. My country engages in all kinds of nasty stuff at home and abroad.

I have felt proud on some days, and on other days I have been really ashamed of my country.

I fear nothing more than the patriot who is always proud of his or her country. Hitler’s people were more proud of their country than anyone else.

If the majority of political candidates’ speeches are written by ghost—I mean, “speech writers”, how is it that the candidate is supposed to know that the person whose work they are pretending to be their own might actually be lifting lines from other speeches, and even (horrors!) “recycling” their own best lines proffered to previous clients—I mean, candidates?

I say, “Kill the Speech Writers. Kill them every one!”;)

I already linked a discussion on this (post #58). According to that article,

"Some conservatives out there seem to find Mrs. Obama’s quote offensive, wondering why a 44 year old woman never felt proud before today – but their anger seems based on an erroneous early version of this quote first reported in the Boston Globe, inaccurately stating that she said "for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country, because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”

The Globe has now been corrected, though oddly there’s no note that an error had been made or a correction given."

The Obama campaign response was very good in my opinion. They didn’t throw mud or get defensive. A spokesperson stated, “Of course Michelle is proud of her country, which is why she and Barack talk constantly about how their story wouldn’t be possible in any other nation on Earth. What she meant is that she’s really proud at this moment because for the first time in a long time, thousands of Americans who’ve never participated in politics before are coming out in record numbers to build a grassroots movement for change."

“What we’ve learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback and let me tell you something, for the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”

This is the actual quote, in context. Sadly, the context in no way changes the obnoxious nature of the statement. Sure doesn’t give me confidence that she’s ready for First Lady duties…

“Sure doesn’t give me confidence that she’s ready for First Lady duties…”

Mrs. Obama is not running for “First lady”, nor does she aspire to be a “Co-President”.

Interesting that Hillary, however, is using her years of experience as First Lady as Presidential qualifying experience. She is taking credit for being “Co-President” for eight years during Bill’s term.

Was Hillary more qualified to handle “First Lady” duties before she got the job?

How so???

How about Mrs. McCain? Is she ready for First Lady duties?
