Obama's Lost years

Here’s another reference to Senator Obama’s activities during this period:

*Grove Parc has become a symbol for some in Chicago of the broader failures of giving public subsidies to private companies to build and manage affordable housing - an approach strongly backed by Obama as the best replacement for public housing.

As a state senator, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee coauthored an Illinois law creating a new pool of tax credits for developers. As a US senator, he pressed for increased federal subsidies. And as a presidential candidate, he has campaigned on a promise to create an Affordable Housing Trust Fund that could give developers an estimated $500 million a year.

But a Globe review found that thousands of apartments across Chicago that had been built with local, state, and federal subsidies - including several hundred in Obama’s former district - deteriorated so completely that they were no longer habitable.

Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obama’s close friends and political supporters. Those people profited from the subsidies even as many of Obama’s constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted.

Some of the residents of Grove Parc say they are angry that Obama did not notice their plight. The development straddles the boundary of Obama’s state Senate district. Many of the tenants have been his constituents for more than a decade.*

Not looking good for Senator Obama.

This thread also led me to The Chicago Defender - an African American centered news source. The Chicago Defender may be found here: [Chicago Defender](http://www.chicagodefender.com/)

Earmarks Continued:

Wow, these are some great programs. I especially like…

the Lewis and Clark Community College, for its mobile health clinic to provide healthcare services to rural areas, $350,000

and

Millikin University School of Nursing, for the expansion and upgrade of their nursing program, $500,000.

Lots of other great programs in there, too. Thanks for pointing these out. I had no idea.

bz, did you by chance add all that up?

pmrlcomm - no, I can’t count that high.

Actually, I do apologize for flooding this thread w/ such a long post(s) - I was sort of trying to prove a point by letting it roll on so long. It made me wonder of the state of Illinois pays for anything!

Reminder: John McCain has NEVER asked for an earmark or pork project for his state. I’m sure there are worthy projects in AZ, but it goes against McCain’s principles to ask for earmarks.

Wonder how many of Obama’s funding requests are “payback” for political backing and/or campaign contributions. Surely Rezco & other developers profitted from his state funding alloocations/subsides (see above). Obviously he isn’t above helping his friends out w/ tax $$.

Just curious. Guess I’ll have to…

And the drumroll please… $391,766,475.00.

Of course being POTUS isn’t the same. It won’t be as easy to spend our money from that seat. Maybe we should elect him so he won’t keep spending our money… lol
