October 18 PSAT Discussion

I’m at -1 writing and either -1 or -2 on CR depending how some questionable ones go. Math is looking alright thus far… hmm.

solace means something along the lines of loneliness like solitude…

CC’s has weird timing issues…

math has a really steep curve :frowning:
but, CR will probably have a nice curve, right?

Solace is like calming someone down or consoling them when they’re sad, I think. Like soothing.

For the x > x^n >0 question…
N is a positive integer, what is x?

Okay well if n is one, x is never going to be greater than x^n. Yeah I know x could be a fraction if n is 2 or more, but still… Idk; I hated that question.

And CR was sorta hard in general, writing not so much though. I just wish we had more time. :/

How did you guys attack the reading passages? I don’t really have a systematic way of working out those problems.

read question and then read relevant part of the passage…

I don’t have a strategy per se, but I generally have no problem finishing within the time constraints, so I have to force myself to read very slowly for maximum comprehension. I usually go through the questions first and mark things in the text so I know what to pay extra attention to for getting my first impulse.

InvisibleMonster. X had to be a fraction. Fractions x fractions get smaller.

^ But that question was awful. It said n was a positive integer, but if n were 1, than anything to the 1st power = itself, so it wouldn’t work.

edit: ooops

Yeah but a lot of the questions are too general to just read the “relevant” part of the passage.

And I sped through the math…I finished it, but I expected to have a few more minutes to just go back to the CR and check over those… :stuck_out_tongue: but I didn’t, really.

So that question should be omitted, seriously! So that was ridiculous.

highhopes, I think the question said n was a positive integer.

what did u guys get for the question after the punctuations passage asking about the purpose? it was either to explain the punctuations answer or the answer with something about order.

Sorry, yeah n…

What I said about it being wrong still holds though…

1 is still a postive integer…

“what did u guys get for the question after the punctuations passage asking about the purpose? it was either to explain the punctuations answer or the answer with something about order.”

I put A :stuck_out_tongue: Idr what that was exaclty… It definitely wasn’t the one comparing grammar to learning driving though haha.

X > X^n > 0

Let’s say X=1/2 and n=1

1/2^1 = 1/2… which ruins the equation

The first greater than sign should be greater than or equal to, I guess.

did anyone get the midpt Q in the math grid in???

I remember the answer to that question was really general… I eliminated 4 stupid answers to get the one I had
