October 18 PSAT Discussion

I don’t remember the choices because I thought sense of discretion was obvious. The question was just like “What does it reveal about Forten that he did not vocalize his wealth?”

Canned dice for the brain one I am talking about the one that included the strength of the answers: strength of the brain’s response, flexibility of the brain, and origin of an impulse

I’m pretty sure that it’s the importance of his role in the community for the taking and giving loans ones. His instability just plain old wouldn’t make sense.

I said incomplete sensory data, but I’ve heard arguments for almost every answer choice…

And for the other brain one, I had strength of an impulse, and I’m still fairly sure that’s right.

Wow… I do not remember that question at all! -gets more nervous- I hope I didn’t skip it and bubble in all the remaining in a different order…

I think it was the strength of a response.

Does anyone have a slight idea what the other answer choices may be for the discretion one? Have pity!

Yeah, I originally had that but when I looked again that section did not talk much about the overall strength of the brain it just talked about the reasons for a neurological response…so i changed to origin of an impulse. Lol at my changing it if it ends up being strength of the brain.

Yeah I put discrete and incomplete sensory data but for the brain one I put flexibility of the brain for the “strength of response” question. The strength of this neurological response wasn’t implied by the phrase, but a degree of flexibility was.

Where was the “displaying of wealth” question? On the back? Right after the passage?

Haha I guess we all have some good rationales for some different answers. I don’t know if there is a question we haven’t covered…

Meadow, do you know anything about the discretion question?

I think someone should work on a compilation…

in the Brain Passage question about the transition sentence, did anyone else put “neurological response” and psycological need?

Anyone remember the wording of that fish question in writing? There was some discussion of it earlier.

I put intuitive–>rational.

For the fish question all I remember are comma splices.

I don’t remember the direct wording of the fish question, but there was a modifier and parallel structure.

I put neurological and psychological.

Discretion anyone? -quietly panics in the corner-

It was taking about the census and something that happened in court and why he didn’t share much…I don’t really remember…although I do remember it being on the first page of questions…

Yeah, I am pretty sure neurological and psychological is the answer for that one.

The sense of discretion was just asking what was the significance of Forten doing this (refer to lines)? And it just showed that he had a sense of discretion about his business work. I don’t think any other answers were nearly as correct because I remember immediately choosing the sense of discretion one.

why would is be neurological and psychological?
In the beginning they talk about how it was intuitive and then they talked about the Enlightenment, and naming constellations after rational ideas.

That certainly was the flow of the passage, but that question asked about the transition at the end of the paragraph in which he talked about the tree in front of the building and the brain’s making a complete image (neurological response) and in the final sentence he says that humans like seeing figures instead of scattered points (psychological need).

But wouldn’t it be intuitive for the brain to make a complete image and rational to simply see figures instead of scattered points?

I hope the curve is nice…
