going back to the discussion of the “massive census” questions, i put that it was important to historians. wasn’t the “lack of evidence regarding forten for historians” the whole point of the passage?

i don’t see how the answer could have been balancing interests. if the phrase “massive census” didn’t hold some significance to the answer, the test writers wouldn’t have included it in the question.

ALSO, does anyone know the semi-finalist cutoffs for boarding schools in new england? i attend one and they get a separate selection index, so i’m just curious. last year i think it was 228, which is pretty high imo.

i thought the CR was a lot harder than last year. last year they docked 2 points off for missing one CR question. the curve better be more generous this time.

yeah, i put that too using the same reasoning, for what its worth. they could show balancing of interests (and did) in a lot of different ways…and the question put a lot of emphasis on the writer.
and thats interesting, i didnt know that. they definitely dont do that for prep schools in new york…

Please I desperately need someone to use their memory to try and remember the choices to the “massive census” question

it showed the large number of africans in the community

(apparently balance of interests bet. work and politics??)

(important to historians??)

i dont even remember choice 2 and 3

and nobody else here remembers choice 1…lol…idk wats going on…

I’m almost 100% positive it was 2 since Forten refused to give up info about himself that might have helped the community but hurt his business.

I’ve been out and about all day but I’m back with my opinions.

“Long since lost” sentence = No error. Definitely.

I think the answer for the Rashava Happy Valley, adding the paragraph should be the one about “the specific nature of the challenges he faced” because that was the info that seemed most lacking and most able to add on to the meaning of the passage.

The “massive census” question should, IMO, be the answer about “balancing interests between politics and business”

And the one I feel most strongly about is the debate of “diaries of family” vs. “correspondence with clients”. The whole point of that entire passage was this guy’s business life is unknown. They continually mentioned the lack of evidence about his business and how the author wished there were more of it. I couldn’t be more confident in “correspondence with clients” for that question.

I agree completely with highopes, although it means that my “long since lost” answer was wrong.

Math grid-ins compiled by me:
29. 4.5 (x,y,18,36)
30. 1250 (value of the car)
31. 115 degrees
32. any fraction 0<x<1
33. 6 (area of rectangle)
34. 9 (number odd integers out of 30)
35. 2/5 (midpoints of line segments)
36. ???
37. 1983 (terms as president)
38. 2/15 (a/c)

“long since lost,” I’m about 60 percent confident that it is incorrect bc i think it is ambigious and losing an artistic style doesn’t sound idiomatic plus the phrase didnt really sound right. (ya sry for the grammar errors and fluency problems = D)

On the “census” question could someone tell me what the question actually was?

I agree, more indepth discussion of the challenges that one guy faced is right (im pritty much 100 percent sure)

On the diaries vs. commerce debate, its probably that I really don’t wanna concede that I missed a question, but i firmly feel that the last two paragraphs of the passage highlighted the man’s personal life that could only be obtained via dairies. Additionally, throughout the passage they talk about how they don’t have enough information from specific, personal sources, thus dairy records would be the best form of information.

The census question was about the importance of the census or something like that. I think the census was something about balancing interests, I know it had the word interests in in it.
and evbanb, I think 36 was something about birch/oak trees and I might have put 100 or something :S.
Did the original sentence say long lost since, or long since lost?

on the trade on i think i put commerce, but im prbly wrong = (. So, on the census problem was there a multiple choice answer that stated it showed his sentiment toward social issues (i know its wrong…its a long story y im asking).

Please I desperately need someone to use their memory to try and remember the choices to the “massive census” question

it showed the large number of africans in the community

(apparently balance of interests bet. work and politics??)

(important to historians??)

Does anybody even remember the question in its entirety??

what was the full question? and why did they put massive census in quotes??

wow, it feels sooo long ago…I can’t remember anything sry

i think it showed the large number of africans in the community because the whole passage showed a balance of interest–not just the words “massive census”–but as usual, i’m probably wrong :-(

there have been so many posts here…this is insane (esp. for a psat)
