October 18 PSAT Discussion

(down)that has been explained before search the thread.

i think n was supposed to be a positive integer greater than one…but I’m not so sure…

That’s what I expected it to say but I’m pretty sure it didn’t… (which made me really confused).

was the answer to the parallel lines one 115?

I remember someone saying that some answer was 115, but I don’t remember which question that referred to…

Yeah one answer was 115. I’m not sure if it was for that question though.

Also for one of the multiple choice questions, about the isosceles triangle… was the answer 55 or 70? Because I think both worked but 70 was greater (and that’s what it asked for) so I put that…

It was definitely 55.

180 - 70 = 110
110/2 = 55

Does anyone remember what they got for the shoes size? 7 right? o.o

Yeah but 180-40 (*40 is a multiple of 10) = 140/2 = 70.

Maybe there’s something I missed about that question?

It’s 55. It is an isosceles triangle, so the angle opposite the longest side must be greater than the 2 isosceles angles. We know the angle is a multiple of 10, so it has to be 70, because 60 would make it equilateral. Then you do 180 - 110 / 2 = 55

I think i put 7 for the shoe question, not sure though

Oh I see what I did now… silly me…

Oh and the answer for the shoe one was whatever choice wasn’t a mixed number. So 7 may of been it.

which problem had an answer of 115?

@cupnoodles, I got 7 for shoe size.

I got 7 too.

I got 55 as the answer.

which problem had an answer of 115?

Toss Up Questions: (in my opinion)

 1. Brain passage – Flexibility of mind vs. strength of response
 2. Brain passage – Puzzle question – complexity of mind, incomplete sensory data, etc.
 3. Forten passage – def. of trade – commerce vs. profession vs. craft

The others I think are pretty much set.

I put “complexity of mind” because a puzzle is something complex, and the author wanted to illustrate that completing objects is not an easy task and shows the brain’s depth in deduction.

I put incomplete sensory data because it talked about the brain solving a puzzle, and it was solving the puzzle of not getting enough info from the eyes… it wasn’t like solving itself, at least thats how I took it.

^ Me too, but I don’t think we’re going to reach any sort of a consensus.

I also put incomplete sensory data since the eyes only gave fragments of the entire image and therefore was incomplete. The brain then took those fragments and completed the picture.
I see how you might say “complexity of the mind” but although it was stated in the passage I don’t think it was the "better’ answer “incomplete sensory data” gives a more direct response.
