October 18 PSAT Discussion

passage 1 would think the assertion in line (2-3) of passage 2 as… not entirely true

no in the weathermen passage about view of the author of passage 2 was “not entirely true”

Chicanery = general distrust. The passage had nothing to do with her not liking technology IMO

And I stick with no error for the Mexicans. Chavez led migrant works, many of them Mexican Americans, blah blah… Sounds fine to me.

She said “chicanery” in a way as if she was listing reasons to avoid liking or trusting him.

Uh, don’t remember it. What were the choices? Also, for question about completing figures, was it symbols, forms, or diagrams?

Was MITIGATE an answer?

what do you all think is the curve. so far i think im -2 for CR, 0 math, and possibly -1 for Chavez writing (i put many of them was wrong)

the other CR one i think i got wrong was in the mind finishing forms passage…question is what was the sentences role in the passage? i put intuitive reaction vs. rational analysis, or something

For the completing figures ones, I put FORMS. It was talking about seeing things like buildings, etc, not symbols or diagrams.

Sentence Completions

  1. Gerrymander
  2. Scourge … innocuous
  3. Fail … Redundancy
  4. Desolate
    Weathermen
  5. Atypical
  6. Tempered enthusiasm
  7. Nonchalant yet reassuring
  8. Chicanery…general distrust or unsophisticated with tech.

1a1- pretty sure its forms

A more mundane (another vocabulary word!) question:

Does anyone know when the score results are predicted to be available?

van_sant I put that it was the transition from something to psychological because we see things as a whole because we psychologically dislike cutting things apart

no in the weathermen passage about view of the author of passage 2 was “not entirely true”

Do you remember any of the choices?

Unsophisticated with technology doesn’t make sense at all in context. It was about her dislike for the new weatherman, and never did it mention her opinion on technology. They would never want such a far-out answer like that.

And for the weatherman one where the answer was “not entirely accurate” one of the choices was like… “a bit cliche” or something.

Does anyone remember the math question about the isosceles triangle and what was the largest possible value for the angle? After a long effort I got 55 but I’m unsure.

Yeah, highopes is right. Everything must be contained within the passages or implied, and the passage never implied anything about her dislike of technology.

yeah, i think thats the right answer soophie…i overthought it, because the first part was pretty psychological, i thought…but then again it was also rational analysis

Was insincere a choice?

Yeah, I think so, 1a1.

55, yeah…
