October 2006 - SAT Math Thread

For the voting one was it 2.8 million or 28 million? I read 28 million which would produce 50.05%. 2.8 million would produce 50.5%. Which one was it?

2.8 and 50.5 fo sho’

BEES question:

a function of bees b(t) is defined by t^2 - 20t + k for 0 <= t <= 99, where t is the day given and b(t) is the total number of bees. what day will have the same amount of bees as day 10?

(something along those lines)

That was BEES not butterflys. And it was 30.

for the pyramid question, does anyone remember what letter the correct answer choice was? i think i did some weird plugging in and just found one that worked. prob hardest question on there for me and right now the only one i think i missed…

definitely A infamousx (m/sqrt(2))

ok…so the ven diagram one…i put 40% because it had 30 total and 9 in the first circle 3 in the one shared between both and then like 15 in the other one i think…it asked how many had something i dont remember so wouldn’t it be

(9+3)/30= 40%

you don’t count 3 qrd, the question asked for people doing ONLY one of the two

What was the commission question? Did that seem too easy to some?

commission question:

percent in k

28000*.0k=280k

or if you like proportions

k/100= ?/28000

cross multiply 280k = ?

it was too easy, especially for the last question in the section

something along the lines of… a salesman gets k percent commission on the selling price of cars. if 2 cars are sold at $14,000 a piece, whats the expression for total commission earned? (k/100) * 2 * 14000

Yeah I couldn’t believe that question, I felt for sure I was doing something wrong. I spent 5 minutes on it trying to see what I had done wrong.

ya ok good that’s what i thought

crap… put B. not that i was getting an 800, but now there is def no chance :</p>

for what question is the answer pi/4.
and what question is this butterfly and grasshopper thing.

And i would also like to ask all the people if possible not to post questions from the experimental section if possible coz there are a few people who did not get maths as experimental (including me) and the extra questions really scare the **** out of me into thinking that i have not written a few answers.

What might be the score for one wrong in a multiple choice.

Best of luck to everyone.

Cheers
Sudu1989

the answer to the ball question is certainly 20.

I have rechecked it with around 20 people so far…including my school maths teacher and all have told me that it is a permutation question and hence have to use 5P2.

It was mentioned that the colors must be different

the answer to the 84 people 19 table is E (i dont remember the actual numbers) but i do remember that choice A adds up to a table number greater than 19.

raw score of 45=680…april 2006… BLAH!

Guys, what score would i get on math if i got 2 questions wrong on this test?

2 questions wrong would likely be 770-780
