October 2011 SAT General Discussion

Actually I thought A was the only one that kept the parallelism of verbal past participles intact instead of making them actual verbs before the subject was even introduced

can someone explain the parabola problem, where you had to solve for “a” in y=a(x-1)^2 given that the point (3,10) lies on the function

^That one was either A or B, but B included “is” and that made it wrong

joe: i just plugged in, expanded the binomial, and got the answer

look at everyone else’s explanations!

@Joepaterno If you have a graphing calculator just plug in 2.5 for the constant and go to table. You will see that (3,10) is one of the points.

Insert numbers so it looks like this
10=a(3-2)^2

So simply simplify that and it’s 10=4a, then move a over and a=5/2

@Joepaterno23 you simply plug 3 in for the x value and then set it equal to the y value (10). a(3-1)^2=10 then finally solve for a. you should get 2.5

I think the Haga Sophia ? was B.

@Joepaterno23

You have the point (3,10). x=3 y=10
y=a(x-1)^2

Plug x and y in and solve for a.
You should get a = 5/2.

@Inlumine Can you please write the whole question. I can’t seem to recall it. Thanks.

The more I read into these post-SAT threads, the more I start to doubt my performance. …And so the wait begins.

Anyone know exactly what time the SAT gods post our scores online?

definitely some time before 6:00
when exactly? i don’t know.

@Ophelia From Hamlet? The scores posted October 19th Midnight.

@Nurture…
It was like “constructed as a church, later converted to a mosque, and now museum” I believe?

^thats correct.

Thanks. There was also a writing section question that was like: “Researchers have found evidence to prove certain ingredients (may promote healing)” is this correct or is it an improper shift in tense from present perfect to future? I put correct and wasnt sure

There was one CR question with “Disparaging” and “Jocular” as two of the choices- what did you guys say?

@irishtraveler…
I don’t recall? Do you remember the Q?

@Inlumine,

Do you remember what choice (A) was like for that one? Many thanks.

@irish that one was “emphatic”
