***October 2015 SAT (US Only) Thread***

Feel better about my essay potential after getting back a 36 ACT writing.

Hey guys, quick question.

As the 10th section came to a close, I looked at the rest of my scantron and I noticed that many of my answers were filled 4/5 of the way in with a super small white space either in the center of the bubble or off to the edge. Could this show up as an omitted question when the scanner grades my test? I’m freaking out about this. I know that a human would have no problem grading the test visually, but I’m not sure that the machine will pick up on my answer if my bubbles aren’t filled in COMPLETELY.

@neoking I don’t know the validity of this, but a teacher once told our class when we were taking the PSATs a few years ago that the scranton can pick up the slightest mark, which is why people should avoid making stray marks on their answer sheet. I’m sure you will be fine!

I think I got all the vocab right and maybe -3 (I chose confusion, ample, and 1 Plato question wrong) wrong, not including the zen passage. I’m really hoping for >700, preferably above 700. How many zen questions were there? I don’t remember thinking it was particularly hard, but two teacher questions there about the details and another one, I may have messed up, along with another. Can someone recall as much info as possible about the questions in the zen? Just like how many and maybe the medium to hard ones. Thanks so much.

You guys are the best. I appreciate how much you all help and care.

This will prob sound stupid but I copied the confidentiality statement in cursive because I SWEAR that’s what they told us to do in the past and I wasn’t paying attention this time around. I noticed that other people were just writing it normally but I didn’t have time to change it. Do you guys think this matters at all? I sire hope it doesn’t

@littlet4lks Now that I think about it, almost every proctor on standardized tests has warned me to erase all stray marks because the scantron machines are sensitive. This makes me feel a lot better about this! Thanks!

What did you get for the math question that asked for the min y value for equation sqrt(y-3) = sqrt (x-5) plus something. I got 3 bc you can’t have a neg sqrt number that is real

Hi.
For the essay, my thesis was “through the well-known classic novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and through the history of Great Britain, it is shown that young people should not only perfect one talent, but develop many.”
I mentioned the name of the author (Fyodor Dostoyevsky) in the thesis, but I don’t think I mentioned the book title (Crime and Punishment) in my body paragraph’s topic sentence. If I forgot to mention the book title, will it affect my essay score by a lot? I was hoping to get around a 10.

@tomatoes124 I got 7. I’m pretty sure I am correct.

@johnlimster how? Do you remember the question?

@tomatoes124 I only remember that it was the 2nd to the last question for the grid-in questions. I know that the answer is 7. I never miss any in math, so…

I think that is the only one I got wrong. What is -1 in math going to be?

@tomatoes124 It will most likely be a 770 or 780.
Can you answer my question too please?

Your essay looks fine @johnlimster ! I think you will get somewhere between a 9-11 if your style was consistent with that of the thesis.

Nope sorry, i just remember the answer and my process

@johnlimster I’m currently in the middle of reading “Crime and Punishment” and I’m curious how you used that book to support the thesis. Was it 19th century Russian society or was it a specific character that you thought fit the prompt?

@johnlimster Now that I think about it, the “extraordinary” person argument could be used with the prompt.

A few questions?
DId anyone get ambivalence for the teaching profession? or is this a wrong answer?
Dismissive vs. incredulous for the tone of the author in the internet/brain change passage.
Gulliver being too big to help vs. extraordinary power
analytical vs. emphatic
Relationship b/w two passages: P2 supports P1, or P2 casts doubt on P1? (Can’t it be supports?)
Personal belief that details are relatively unimportant vs. teachers are uncomfortable

What was the QUESTION where the answer was dispel misperceptions?

Oh gosh
Is it just me?
I really really want to see my scores and I’m freaking out!!!
