October in New York - Suggestions?

I stayed at the Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel on Lexington near 57th last month when I took my D to school in New York. My friend and I ended up with a nice suite and got a great rate with AAA.

Showmom, unless there are several showmom’s on cc (not sure) did you suggest a Cuban restaurant about a year ago near Broadway (don’t recall the address)? If so, do you recall the name of it?

stillnadine: if you are still checking this thread, there are some really fun walking tours if you are into that…some of them showcase TV show locales, others movies…I’m sure a google search would yield some interesting results…

northeastmom - Sorry, it wasn’t me that suggested the Cuban restaurant. But there is a wonderful breakfast place I would reccommend called Alice’s Teacup. I think it is on 64th street. The scones there are to die for!

Since the Cloisters is part of the Met, you can go to both on the same day for one admission. On a beautiful October day, the Cloisters would be a very nice place to spend some time, since there are some very nice outdoor areas with views. Don’t bother if the weather is bad.

If you go to Chinatown, check out the shopping on Canal Street. Does your daughter watch “What Not To Wear”? You can get a haircut at Arrojo Studio in the same neighborhood.

showmom, thanks.

A favorite fun place of ours with singing waiters and waitresses is “ELLEN’S STARDUST DINER” located at 51st and Broadway…A retro 1950’s DooWop themed diner/restaurant that we have been to many times and highly recommend to friends with kids!

www.ellensstardustdiner.com.Great for a fun light lunch/early dinner with entertainment.Always a good time, esp for kids/teens.My Daughter is in collg and this is still one of her favorite spots…A large model train circles the room as the costumed staff stand on tables and counter edges singing out classic 50’s music…Anyone that we have sent here have been very happy with the suggestion…ENJOY

oh and MADAME TUSSAUDS WAX MUSEUM on West 42nd street is always a fun visit, esp for teens.Taking pics with the statues is a great souvenier for the kids to show their friends. So life like, esp in the pics that their friends will be fooled!!!LOL

So many great ideas! Thank you all so much!

Ticket discounts for many shows are to be had if you create a login with [Playbill: Broadway, Off-Broadway, London News, Listings and Tickets](http://www.playbill.com/index.php) You can use the discount codes when you order online or by phone, or you can print the page out and take it to the theater box office.

[Now Playing: Plays](http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/off.php) links to everything that is playing in NY, and also includes links for some discounts, as does [Broadway Shows | Broadway Discount Tickets | Broadway Plays](http://www.entertainment-link.com/)

We did four days, three nights in NYC in August (Comfort Inn Theatre District on 44th st. between 8th and 9th aves) which included three shows on Broadway, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the King Tut Exhibit, the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, and [Tribute WTC Visitor Center](9/11 Tribute Museum - Guided Memorial Tours, Museum, and More) We had a great time!

Although we live 26 miles from manhattan we always make a short trip to the city for the holidays. One thing that we really loved was the off broadway show The Fantastics - it’s not too expensive and gets you to Times Square at night which is quite a site.

You should try and hit Serendipity III on the east side they take reservations if you are dining there otherwise there usually is a long wait. But the Fozen Hot Chocolate is great.

I would recommend the MOMA instead of the other museums. It’s closed on Tuesdays and is not so overwhelming. Some of the museums have evening hours. You can stroll there through central park ending up on fifth and 59 street. I would visit the zoo in the park and stay away from the bronx zoo which would be a whole day trip. It’s a great zoo but if you haven’t been to nyc before I would spend the days in manhattan.

Shopping in SOHO is a lot of fun and you can walk to little italy, china town and the lower east side. There are many resturants to choose from.
Visit the UN or at least make a stop to tudor city which over looks it. Great views.
You can do the empire state building at night - the views are beautiful.

Don’t be afaird to take subways - the hop of hop on bus might be good but in my experience you will spend a lot of time on the bus since this is the slowest way to get around the city. Buy a subway pass and you can usually get everyplace that you need to quickly. If you decide that you just need to take a taxi - they usually can get you from downtown to midtown for around $10-12 you can use your debit or credit card. Just check and make sure that the card gets charged only once. You can add the tip right on to the bill.

If you are in a group i recommend searching for spots through [Have bars compete for you | Venugo.com](http://www.venugo.com), allows you to send a request directly to the managers and they will hook you up with a good deal to get your business

So where is the best shopping for reasonably priced and/or deals in NYC? Next weekend we are meeting up with Ds (21 and 22) who want to shop 'til they drop. S (17) not as interested in shopping. We are taking in a few New Yorker Festival events but would like other suggestions too - the High Line sounds like all might like. Suggestions for a show all might like as well? I was thinking of In the Heights. Thanks! Staying in Manhattan - W35th.
