OCU Nov Results + Discussion

@GingerMaman - thanks for the info! His admissions counselor said that the person who manages email for the school of music was out of office yesterday and today, but the counselor hopes to get back with my son by end of week. I do a lot with mass email in my workplace and there indeed are many potential traps and pitfalls!

@prarie I’m so sorry you have to wait even longer, but hopefully they will let you know soon! BAL to your son!!

My D received notice Friday Dec 13th but it was caught in her spam box so she didn’t see it till Monday night. She got in! Yay!!! Good luck to everyone out there. I’m trying to research and understand this school better in the Broad scheme of things in the MT industry. My D did not go to a performing arts school and she has not a lot of guidance in this. If anyone has interesting info, please share!

My D also did not receive an email (checked spam repeatedly as well). We assumed it was a no, but she got a postcard in the mail today from her admissions counselor congratulating her on her acceptance into the MT program. Let’s hope that was not a mistake!!

Wondering if posting in this in this thread or starting a new one is better?

OCU is a strong contender for us, top choice of those we were accepted to with 1-2 waitlist schools that could mix things up a bit, if not will be thrilled to attend OCU wanted to see who else on CC is strongly considering MT class of '24 at OCU?

as an FYI, my D coach through MTCA said his kids going to OCU this coming fall are INSANELY talented, that these kids are on par with kids who have historically gone to the " BIGGIES"

anyway Ill start with D was accepted in December- wondering what the typical incoming Freshman MT class size as far as # of kids, m/f split? don’t see that OCU puts out a " banner" like many other schools do…

welcome all input.

My D attended the OCU Summer Music Program as a rising junior. It was outstanding in terms of exposure to actual faculty, the training, the vibe of fellow students and counselors who were current OCU students. and the production value which was phenomenal. They produced a full book show (How to Succeed w/ full costume and orchestra) put together over 2 weeks, rehearsing evenings and weekends only - the day was used for instruction. They had a cabaret dinner theatre for parents before the full production, which was nothing but elegant, and the vocal quality and musicality of everyone was exceptional. The meal for parents was lovely. Oh, and food on campus was consistently good w/ healthy options. Leaving, the kids were in tears as such a tight bond and great group of people.

Although a bigger class size, I understand this allow for move leveled training, ie more dance levels, and ability to cross train to some extent ie an MT opting to take an extra Shakespeare class. I believe the Freshman class size is around 35. The only concern I heard voiced is that you must audition for senior showcase. However they produce 3 showcases - one for LA, one for Chicago and one for NYC.

If any current parents can share that would be most helpful!

@NYYFanNowMTdad My D also has OCU MT at the top of her accepted list right now. We do have a waitlist school that she’s very interested in, but not counting on it. Make sure your D knows about the OCU Zoom meeting on Sat. the 18th with current MT students. Might be helpful.

thanks @Bingosings will do…we had a great face time session w Dr. H yesterday

@NYYFanNowMTdad Good to know. We should probably do that. We have a lot of questions, especially about dance. My D wants to improve in that area and wants to make sure the opportunity is there.
