When is this for? If it’s for summer, it’s absolutely too late to have much choice at all – check Craigslist for sublets.

If she’s going to be a freshman, she’s going to live on campus for her first two years unless she’s over 21 or married.

If she’s going into grad school, it’s still pretty late to be getting housing now – a lot of the good stuff was already snapped up – but it largely depends on how much money you’re willing to fork over, and how close to campus she wants to be.

If you’re willing to pay quite a bit, there are some really nice apartment complexes close to campus in safe neighborhoods. Cheaper, but sketchier – and still close to campus – are the houses on Howe, Lynwood, Park, Orange and Edgewood.

If she’s a grad student, a lot of them live up near East Rock, which is full of lovely neighborhoods and affordable housing. However, walking up there alone at night is a big no-no (some sketchy areas between campus and East Rock), so she’d be taking a shuttle after dark.
