We had friends over for dinner the other night. We shared stories of how we met our spouses. This couple met at Arcosanti! That’s the first time I’d heard of the community. Now I want to check it out.
Highly recommend taking 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff (or in reverse) - it’s one of my favorite highways and much more scenic than the I-17. If you are in pretty good shape and are up for adventure, Flagstaff Extreme is a fun workout - zip-lines and obstacle course in the pine trees. Old Town Scottsdale is touristy but, if the weather is nice, walking around that area and the adjacent Scottsdale Civic Center is nice. Lots of restaurants, etc. I live down the street from the Musical Instrument Museum and agree it is worth visiting. Good thing you’ll be here in April and not March - it’s pretty crazy busy with all of the MLB spring training games. You could experience a pretty good difference in temperature between the Phoenix area and up north, make sure you pack accordingly. Enjoy my hometown!

We just did that trip (Phoenix, Sedona, Grand Canyon) but also went down to Tucson. I ditto the drive up 89A (Oak Creek Canyon) rather than taking the highway, but check to see if it open (sometimes has rock slides). We stopped at a fun place for lunch on our way to the GC, Rock springs Cafe. Known for its pies. Its a hoot.
Don’t know how old you are, but if you have a senior National Parks pass, don’t forget to bring it. Will save you $30 entrance fee to the Grand Canyon.
We did a personal tour in Sedona- not the group jeep tour. We purposely chose a sundown vortex tour. Our guide wasn’t all that great, but did take us to less crowded places. And his knowledge wasn’t the best. But it was entertaining. Traffic was horrible in Sedona, though. Be prepared. Do go to the chapel of the Holy Cross. @rightfit - the tour guide was sweet. Just basic in his knowledge. He was trying to say something from there was used in computer chips (I forget what) and my tecchie family members were biting their tongues. The guide did ask us our level of interest in the “fringier” (my word) stuff. But he did play a drum, a flute and have us spread some corn meal (I forget the significance). They usually use their own cars but we had the baby with the car seat so we used our rental car. I’ll get the name for you.

I LOVE Sedona, but haven’t been in years. There are many great hikesa round there. Cathedral Rock is a standout for me. I also remember riding bikes from somewhere near town - that was fun.
