Official 2008 Questbridge National College Match Discussion and Help

no, you just kind of send them and pray to the College admissions Gods/desses.
unless ur really worried…

i received an email from PRINCETON today telling me that have completed my application! But nothing from yale.

Am I supposed to call the colleges I ranked and ask for an interview?
Is it bad if I don’t?
I feel that interviews would hurt me more than help me.

gleung, 8800??

& ilovetechno, if you feel the interviews would hurt …it really wouldn’t be in your best interest to go through with them.

for colleges that don’t ask for common app recs to be completed, will they see QB teacher recommendations?

gleung, honestly i don’t think test scores are as big of a deal as everyone makes them out to be. if someone wants to reject me just because my scores aren’t to a certain standard i say go ahead.

and my GPA is 4.15 also and i worked hard for that so i don’t know where you get off saying ONLY.

honestly at the end of the day i don’t think numbers are that big of a deal.

dang dude,$8000! thats so little, no offense, I am just saying. how do you afford, internet, a computer, and electricity on that budget?

sorry I am not trying to mock you or anything, I am actually pretty intrigued by your situation. good luck man!

An annual income of $8800 is well below the poverty line.

jesus, i didnt even know that that was possible.

i mean, i know there are people who make $0 a year because they’re unemployed. but who the hell gets paid 8800 dollars a year?

wow.

Gleung, hope you don’t feel uncomfortable. It was probably difficult for you to share that with us.

My mom and I live off of $13,800 a year. That’s why I work 4-5 nights a week. We had a computer since before my mom became disabled. Things are tough but we get by. It is possible. Sort of a formula of necessity + resourcefulness + determination  Personally, I look at our situation as an incentive to excel, get a good education and have a successful future.

Remember we are all here in a fantastic program for low income, high achieving students.
Many of us face obstacles we have, and will continue to, overcome.

Good luck to all with the match! :)

why do u feel discouraged … $8,800 with those grades … qb was made for students like you

oh my gosh…
im so anxious
i want the match results now…
19 more days…

god i know what you mean…
i’m counting down the days too.

i’m going to cry so much if i don’t get matched.

and then it’ll be back to the commonapp with puffy eyes.

I just realized that I didn’t indicate the credits for my current classes on common app for yale and upenn
I don’t know what to do
Should I e-mail them letting them know
Or don’t bother pointing out the fact that i submitted an incomplete application and just hope for the best?

i’m so stressed
anyone else feeling stressed?
i have to write ~20 essays for reg. decision too

ilovetechno, i did the same with my UChicago app. i think it’s nothing to fret over. my counselor said if you wrote certain classes under for two semesters, and others for only one semester, they’ll usually assume that the latter are one credit and the former are only half.

someone in my school ( questbridge finalist ) got an interview 2 days ago with an alumni from YALE…why not me ? i’m also waiting for the ELI #… that same friend got his ELI # last week! obviously he got their attention!

i’m very stressed … i’m very confused right now and i don’t know anymore why i did questbridge !!! i want to start already my other apps for RD…i have like 8 more schools to do… BROWN,U OF CHICAGO,GEORGETOWN,AMERICAN,EMORY,TUFTS,DUKE,JHU.

LaVieEnChocolat -

I posted this on page 151 (received Yale’s answer on Friday, November 7th):

I wrote Yale an email regarding the ELI # and interview. Since I had received neither an ELI # nor an interview date, I asked if all my paperwork had been received. This was the reply:

“Unfortunately, we are not able to tell you the status of all your paperwork right now since most of the paperwork from applicants are still being processed. Be assured that if you are missing anything, we will let you know. In regards to the interview, it will depend on whether one is available in your area or not.”

Hope this relieves some of the angst we are all sharing right now!

I only received my ELI account the day before yesterday. I still have not heard about an interview.

I know this is so nerve wracking but we have to remember that in 2007 there were 1794 QuestBridge finalists and this year even more. Yale is one the schools many people list to match not only for it’s reputation but that it is one of only a few schools that accepts international students, as well as being non-binding.

The application deadline was only about 10 days ago and I feel they are probably so inundated with applications (and all that paperwork!!!) that they are just wading through it as quickly as possible.

I don’t believe there is one of us who can honestly say they are not anxious. I think all we can do is hope, pray, cross our fingers, etc. that we get matched and to our “dream” school.

Perhaps if you don’t hear from Yale by Friday you can email or call them?

Hope this helps! :)

Did anyone get their penn portal info?

^Nope, not yet.
