Number of Apps from Your School: 1 (me)
Other stats: I have done well at many national circuit debate tournaments - not really the kind of thing MIT looks at too seriously though

Hook (if any): My devotion to service for others
Location/Person:
State or Country: California
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Private, all boys, very competitive. Don’t send many ppl to MIT, simply because it’s so far away, but every year we have several who go to Ivies
Ethnicity: White (or, if you like, Syrian-Italian-Greek-Egyptian)
Income Bracket: $500,000 (I think)
Gender: Male
Hooks: SEE ABOVE
Strengths/Weaknesses: I don’t think I am the kind of person that MIT is looking for. I didn’t really know that I wanted to go into engineering until just this year when I took AP Physics Mechanics. Therefore, for the past years, I didn’t focus as much on Math and Science as I could have. I am now one of the most advanced math and science students at my school, but I just started shining in these subjects. I also have not done extensive Science and Math extracuriculars, other than Science Olympiad and Mathletes, but I always fought my mom who wanted me to do robotics (my bad mom!)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I visited and I don’t really think that I fit the stereotype. I don’t think I’m ready to commit fully to math and science, because I still wanna pursue political science and/or philosophy
Other Factors: My sister taught at MIT last semester
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
Congratulations to everyone who got in! I am not really that jealous, because I don’t think I would have enjoyed it that much. I’ll probably go to UCLA, which is a much larger environment that also has sports teams. lol, one thing MIT will never really have. I made some mistakes in high school, but I don’t regret it. I’m not ready to go cross country and be so focused.</p>
