Volunteer/Community service:
Volunteer with my mom for the Lion’s Club and some school events that NHS hosts.

Summer Activities:
Mainly just volunteering and researching.

Essays:
I would say my essays were good. I definitely feel I conveyed who I am through them with my diction and science references.

Teacher Recommendation:
Ok to be honest I am not sure. I had my chemistry teacher do it, and I have good achievements in his class (chem olym, ap exam, science bowl) and he wrote my rec for governors school and the research internship which I got in, but I don’t know if he likes me. I kind of told him I liked him via email and things got awkward between us. Its better now, but idk how that affects the rec… Last year he told me he writes objective recommendations, so I would think its good, but idk.

Other:
State (if domestic applicant): TN

Country (if international applicant):

School Type: Newly built school (first freshman class) — pretty large population — mainly christian white people (not good for LGBTQQ community) — public — since its new I could start a lot of things

Ethnicity: Hispanic

Gender: Gender

Income Bracket(mention if FA candidate): My dad is a single parent and makes 17,000

Hooks (First Generation College, Minority,Learning Disability, etc.): First generation college student, minority ---- not even ■■■■■■■■ you but strictly giftedness is a learning disability

Reflection:
Strengths: GPA (5.0 Unweighted), Achievements in things I am interested in, essays, income, hooks, situation (brother lost his memory — has to constantly be on expensive medication)(being homosexual in a strict christian place isn’t easy)

Weaknesses:
Possibly the recommendation – also have relatively low scores (from an ivy perspective)

Why you think you were accepted/rejected:
I honestly don’t know the criteria for acceptances, so I am not sure why I got accepted. I would like to think that my essays were good and my achievements were good.

What other Scholarships will you be applying for:
I applied to the Young Scientist Quest for Excellence scholarship thing. I will also apply to NCM

**General Comments: **

I believe everyone should apply to it. Even if your test scores are low, or you don’t have extracurriculars, people need to realize that not the same opportunities are opened to everyone. With that said, you can create those opportunities. Start a club you are passionate about. Have in grow, and succeed in it.

Also, I typically rant about this, but don’t worry about your grades. Worry about your education — it is what truly will matter in the future.
